The Arctic Monkeys are are an award-winning English band that have been gaining in popularity ever since their debut and are very big in their home country. They do have fans throughout other areas of the world but they haven’t seemed to enjoyed the same kind of widespread fame that truly legendary bands have experienced in their careers. It could be that they’re still waiting for that big break to come around or it could be that they don’t want to get that big yet. No matter what happens though they’ve managed to gain their own fame throughout England a few other areas.
Fame is fame if you want to be vague about it, but their success is nothing to sneeze at.
5. They became known through the internet.
Unlike bands that play unknown venues or get lucky enough to introduce other bands while playing their own songs Arctic Monkey became known via the internet. The number of views that came from their videos played a massive role in how they got noticed. Getting famous by being seen on the internet seems like a really low-cost way to go about it, but not nearly as certain.
4. They were unaware that they had their own MySpace site.
Apparently some of their fans created a MySpace page for them and the band had no idea. Anyone remember MySpace? It was a precursor to Facebook and several other social media sites that did just about the same thing but was slightly limited obviously. Still it was a good way for the band to get even more notice so hopefully they thanked their fans once they found out about it.
3. The lead man based their first album on the kind of behaviors he saw in nightclubs.
When you consider what kind of things can be seen in nightclubs in terms of behavior that seems like it might have been a crazy album. But then again there’s a lot of interpretation when it comes to goes on so it could have been a fast-moving album with a lot of songs about various topics that came together in at type of harmony that wasn’t fully expected but managed to convey a message of some sort.
2. John Lennon is cited as one of their biggest influences.
John Lennon is likely to be cited as a big influence by many bands and singers but Arctic Monkey took a lot from Lennon’s songs that helped them to think of something a little more inspirational. The lead singer stated that he wanted to be able to come up with something as iconic as I Am the Walrus, but knew that it would take time and practice to get something that good down on paper.
1. They’ve been around since 2002.
They’re not noobies since they’ve been around so long but it still seems like they’re trying to catch up to the rest of the musical pack. They’ve made their way this far and are still going so obviously they’ve earned their right to be here.
They’re doing what they love to do, that’s what matters.
