Batman in feudal Japan looks like it’s going to be something crazy, over the top, and likely epic. The one thing we need to clear up though is that while ninjas and samurai do tend to go hand in hand this looks more as though Batman, trained by ninjas, will be taking up the garb of a samurai instead. This means more armor and definitely a bigger attitude that fits with the character we already know. But so far it looks fairly confusing since feudal Japan didn’t have the kind of tech that Batman is so used to employing, though it’s still seen in the trailer that this kind of thing is being used. Perhaps more will emerge sooner rather than later on this as time goes by since the film will be released in 2018, which is rapidly approaching.
It looks like it might be some kind of awesome since the tale of the Batman and the Joker has been great since its first foray into the comics. Despite the fact that the Joker has rarely ever been able to match Batman as far as physical prowess goes he’s always been the dark knight’s most dangerous adversary simply because he is the embodiment of chaos and always keeps coming back no matter what happens to him. Now, giving him the control over a populace and the role of a samurai lord, at least it looks that way, seems to put him on more even ground with Batman in terms of power and influence. Plus, as much as Batman will have his own crew it looks like, the Joker has never failed to inspire those who are of like mind and will rally to his chaotic whims.
Harley Quinn will be there obviously, and she will be on Joker’s side as usual it would seem. Batman will of course have his own retinue of which Nightwing, Robin, Catwoman, and a few others will be a part. He’ll even have Alfred in this strange time warp of a movie and a great fortune still to fall back on. Because no matter where Bruce Wayne goes he’s bound to be a man that’s rich beyond belief, right? Honestly I’d love to see what the writers could do if Bruce Wayne were to be stripped of his fortune and had to rely on his grit more than his resources. I personally think that he’d do okay since he’s that tough, but without a safety blanket to retreat to it seems like Batman would be knocked down a few pegs since he wouldn’t have his most reliable tech.
Does anyone get that the Batman is such a formidable opponent only because he has unlimited wealth to fall back on? It’s a truth that a lot of people take for granted since he’s been this way for so long, but it’s also something that, if stripped away, he might find tougher to overcome. In any case it would make this and any other story a great deal more interesting if Batman had to play without the majority of his toys, just to see what might happen.
