There’s no question at all the Jim Carrey hasn’t been the same since his girlfriend Cathriona White took her own life. Jim Carrey’s suicidal girlfriend wrote him a disturbing letter just weeks before she died, saying she was “damaged and disgusting” after being infected with three STDs. Cathriona’s ex husband, Mark Butler, sued Carrey over his estranged wife’s death, released text messages between the pair, which appeared to show Carrey ditching her after she revealed her STD fears.
It’s been nearly three years since the suicide that occurred on September 28th, 2015. I don’t care who you are, what you do, or how famous you are. That’s going to affect you in a pretty massive way. While I think Carrey has been a shell of his former funny self for much longer than 2015, he’s been particularly recluse and his acting roles haven’t been necessarily up to par since 2015. It is because of the suicide? I would argue it has a huge bit to do with it.
I suggested a couple of weeks ago that Carrey do a Netflix comedy special to go back to his roots and perhaps rejuvenate himself. Whatever’s going on in Carrey’s life is his business but his latest selfie looking like an old beaten down man doesn’t help speculation that his life isn’t great right now.
This is not a David Letterman thing. This seems way more problematic than that. I just hope that Carrey is alright. Actually I hope this IS a David Letterman thing and that we’re really just waiting for the real Jim Carrey to re-emerge once more.
