Everything We Know about Netflix Series “Firefly Lane” So Far

Firefly Lane

Jessica Fisher of Geek Tyrant makes a pretty good point that this series could be decent if you’re into the kind of story it tells. In other words it’s a feelgood series about two friends that serve as a lifeline for one another and a way for Katherine Heigl to stay employed. That might seem a bit unkind but the truth is that Heigl has been something of an issue in Hollywood for a while since it’s been seen more than once that she’s kind of difficult to work with and in a big way has seemed to lose a good amount of her popularity over the years. Sarah Chalke on the other hand has been in and out of the public eye when it comes to her roles and has been a much more favorable actress for quite some time, though there’s not much mention of whether or not she’s been problematic on any particular set. In any case, this novel-driven series is bound to be something that will entertain those that love a good friendship story since the two women are best friends in this movie and while one of them, Heigl, is famous and has a rather dynamic lifestyle that keeps her busy all the time, she’s still beset by the remnants of childhood trauma that she endured earlier in life and needs her friend at times to help balance her out. Being that it’s in pre-production at the moment though there’s not a whole lot more to tell.

Perhaps one of the biggest criticisms of Heigl is that she seems to play the same character over and over. Whether she starts out as successful or at the bottom there’s always something that comes along that she didn’t know she needed or didn’t know that she needed to pay better attention to in order to be truly happy. She still has a large number of fans that are willing to watch what she’s in but at the same time she’s become kind of passe for a lot of people as well since she hasn’t really evolved though she’s certainly called out a few faults on the parts of those in show business. Adam White of The Telegraph seems to think that she deserves a second chance as she’s been open about stating that people thought she was a sweetheart when she clearly wasn’t, but some folks would likely dissent and state that Heigl was rarely, if ever, a sweetheart even on camera since a lot of her characters have been rather indicative of the way she really is no matter that there have been tender moments as well. It might be time to put a bit more faith in her as an actress and not a person, but some folks are hard to please and won’t accept the word of just anyone when it comes to trusting an actor these days, which is wise in many ways but does limit a person when it comes to their entertainment choices.

After all if we end up putting actors on pedestals in an attempt to justify anything and everything they do then they become little more than idealistic versions of themselves that many of them can’t live up to. It’s true that Heigl has been kind of a pain throughout the last few years and has bitten the hand that fed her in a big way by denying that the writers for Grey’s Anatomy had given her the kind of material that was award-worthy. Amanda June Bell from Nicki Swift reported on this and a lot of people felt that the words and the sentiment were spot on since not only is Heigl not a writer and has no real idea of what she was saying, but she even admits to this day that she should have bit her tongue at that time. Maybe the penance period for that faux pas is finally up with Firefly Lane, because obviously nothing she’s done since her disrespect towards Grey’s Anatomy has really worked. Perhaps at this time she’ll finally reconnect with a large number of the fans that she seems to have lost over the years, no matter if she’s America’s sweetheart or not.

One thing you don’t do in show business, as it’s been seen more than once, is expect to skirt past any and all consequences when you metaphorically bite the hand that feeds you. Some actors tend to need a hard lesson in humility it would seem but it’s also been noted that once this is felt and appreciated that a lot of them do tend to come back a little stronger and a little wiser. Perhaps this will be Heigl’s time to shine once again since as many people can attest to, she’s been needing this kind of chance for a while.
