No one knows the title of it yet but Damien Chazelle will be developing a new and innovative drama series for Apple that will be joining several others. As of now Apple is going to be investing about $1 billion dollars for scripted originals that will be airing under their brand, and so far they’ve managed to procure Chazelle and many other big names in the industry, both in acting and in directing so that they can produce some of the best content possible. They’ve already got a few titles under construction, Chazelle’s will be another one that is worth the wait, or so the rumor has been started.
It’s far to say that if a director does well on a film and it gains nominations and even awards then they know what they’re doing. In that case they tend to become a hot commodity that a lot of people would love to nab and make use of for their own companies. The kind of prestige and profit this can bring might be hard to truly fathom for people not involved in films, but to those that know the worth of such people they are willing to spend whatever they need to in order to procure their services. This simply means that Chazelle has done something right and that others believe he can do it again. There’s nothing to say he can’t so it might be interesting to see what comes as he gets set to start filming a story that he will be contributing to as a director and a writer.
No one knows just yet what the series will be about, how many episodes it will have, or even when it comes out. All we know so far is that Chazelle is attached to it and he’ll be reuniting with the same producing team he worked with on La La Land so it’s obvious that he’ll be in his comfort zone as far as who he’s working with. That should help a bit since really it doesn’t matter how charismatic or adaptable a person is working with people that you’ve never worked with before can be kind of daunting until you get to know them well enough and understand how they work. That being said, the fact that Chazelle managed to complete and create a movie like La La Land and make it work means that he knows what it takes to get a film pushed through, done, and perfected on a scale that will make it something that people will remember for some time to come.
This however is going to be a series so it might be a bit harder since he can’t write the whole thing in one grand swoop, he’ll have to pay attention to development, scenery, and many other aspects that he no doubt knows how to consider. It’s not so much the what of the work, it’s the time and effort that have to be devoted to it and the effort it will take to make one episode mesh with another.
