Chicago P.D. Season 5: Top Moments from the Premiere

Chicago P.D. Season 5: Top Moments from the Premiere

From the season 4 finale of Chicago P.D., we knew that there were some changes brewing, and that come season 5, we were to expect these changes to take into effect. However, many fans were still very much unprepared–and possibly also unsatisfied–with the departure of one of the show’s main characters from the beginning–Lindsay as played by Sophia Bush. The show must go on, so they say, so we’ve compiled the top 5 moments from the season 5 premiere, Reform.

1. The Pursuit

We saw an amazing action sequence involving Halstead and Upton running after loaded suspects in a civilian area. It became dangerous fairly quickly not only for the officers but for the civilians as well, which is proven when Halstead finds Upton after they separated tending a little girl that had been shot. It was full of tension, danger, and raw emotion, and it was a great way to start a premiere with.

2. Taking It Very Seriously

Questions arose about the team’s operation after an innocent little girl got shot. Halstead is likely to blame, but supposedly, they were doing the best they could for the situation at hand. Chief Lugo called the shooting a PR nightmare and called in Denny Woods to review the event. Woods, of course, tells them that they’re taking it as seriously as possible, making us worry about Halstead’s future.

3. At the Hospital

Nobody knew about the illegal daycare operation that was going on there. Should they have known that though before they went in? Yes, they probably should’ve. But what’s done was done. The hospital scene was probably one of the most gut-wrenching ones the show has had for a while. When Halstead found out the situation of the little girl and just completely lost it and broke down, we completely lost it too.

4. Ruzek and the Innocent

Ruzek pointed a gun on a black suspect, whom we found out was innocent later on. Of course it mattered that he was black because of the many racial situations going on all over the country; Ruzek knew off the bat that this was going to mean trouble for him. The media took this information and just barreled through with it. This pretty much became an even bigger catalyst for the downward spiral of the episode, and somehow, Halstead gets pinned as a racist in the end. It’s as complicated as it can get.

5. The Final Negotiation

This scene also included the return of a familiar face, Detective Dawson. Dawson was helping Voight to pin Marcus down for the messes. They got the guy and got into negotiations with Alderman Price. It’s never good dealing with Price, but it’s something that Voight had to do to keep his team intact. Voight ended up saving Halstead from being axed off the team, and we’re left to wonder when these guys will be facing each other again. We were promised that this arc will continue throughout the season, and we’re looking forward to it.
