Piotr Rasputin, or Peter as he’s commonly known, is one of the most overlooked X-Men in the franchise and yet is one of the most powerful. He’s gone toe to toe with the likes of the Juggernaut and the Incredible Hulk, as well as the The Thing from the Fantastic Four, and yet his notoriety has always suffered due to his lack of character development. He’s easily one of the more important X-Men just because he’s been around for so long. When a lot of the others went off to do other things he stayed, holding down the fort so to speak. He’s made friends among the X-Men, Wolverine being one of them and Kitty Pryde being another, but more often than not he’s a supporting character that gets overlooked too often. Casting a standalone Colossus movie seems very much overdue.
Now the only thing is to figure out just who would play him and what kind of supporting cast he would need.
Plot
There are so many plot lines to pick from, but one that strikes true is to introduce his sister, Illyana, and indicate the trouble she is having adapting to her newfound mutant abilities and how the X-Men can help her.
Director – Tim Miller
Miller was the guy in charge of the Deadpool movie and obviously he knows what he’s doing. He gave us a Colossus that was truer to the character than most, with a good-streak a mile wide and annoying as all get out. But when the big Russian was told to get aggressive he came with a force that would leave a lot people lying in the dirt with a shocked look on their faces. Miller could easily direct a movie like this.
Colossus – Stefan Kapicic
He did such a great job in Deadpool let’s bring him back. Plus Daniel Cudmore, the other guy that did Colossus in X-Men, already said a few years back that he didn’t want to reprise the role. Kapicic would be perfect for the upright and virtuous X-Man.
Illyana Rasputin/Magik – Harley Graham
She’s still a relative unknown but she has acting experience and she has right look for Illyana. The younger sister of Peter was a blonde in the comics and always had a rather impish but innocent look about her. Harley fits that perfectly.
Storm – Naomie Harris
You might say bring back Halle Berry but really it’s time for someone else to take the role. Naomie Harris has the acting credits and could bring a very believable side to the role.
Wolverine – Tom Hardy
Despite their obvious differences Wolverine and Colossus have been good friends for much of their time together. It would be amusing to see Colossus fling Hardy at someone as he pops his claws.
Professor X – Patrick Stewart
It would be a limited role but one that only Stewart or McAvoy could possibly handle with any real accuracy. Bringing Professor X would either be a cameo experience or for just a few crucial scenes.
Kitty Pryde – Ellen Page
At one time Kitty was Colossus’s love interest, but over time their friendship grew and they realized they better off being close but not too close. Plus, she is one of his best friends and a very big reason why he is so adamant about not hurting others when it can be avoided. He wants Kitty to see him as a good man.
The Colossus standalone movie would be far better than many people would think. Putting the big metal X-Man front and center would finally grant him the respect he deserves in film.
