ATX Television Festival co-founders Emily Gipson and Caitlin McFarland kicked off Season 6 of the Festival with great enthusiasm and very little pretense. Emily and Caitlin introduced their top staff and everyone gushed about what excites them. Top staff included Laura Kincaid (Director of Operations), Jennifer Morgan (Festival Coordinator), Willita Mahone (Volunteer Manager), David Sotelo (Tech Coordinator) and Ashland Viscosi (Sponsor Coordinator). Festival Ambassador Nick Wexler who recently played a cop on ‘Chicago PD’ also spoke. All touched on the theme of TV Camp for Grownups.
These ladies clearly are still thrilled to be putting their Festival together and take none of it for granted. Much like sleepaway camps of our youth, the founders and staff reminded Festival attendees to drink water, make friends, and embrace the happy accidents that may come about for those who relax. Mr. Wexler talked about how much he enjoyed socializing with fans the past four Seasons he attended.
Staff encouraged attendees to relax and go with the flow. We may not make it into every single screening or panel we most wanted because seating is limited and we only got four reservations each. This Festival has dozens of screenings and panels. Panelists will generally appear at several panels. So, even if we miss something we thought we had our hearts set on: relax, make new friends and try some panels we never thought about before. There might actually be some good advice for life hidden in there. Afterall, isn’t life really what happens while we’re making other plans?
