Amy Poehler is a comedy legend. The veteran actress had viewers laughing for seven season on Saturday Night Live. This was followed by an award winning performance as Leslie Knope on the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation. Now Poehler will be making her feature directorial debut with the Netflix comedy Wine Country.
Netflix made the announcement earlier today on their Twitter feed. The streaming service posted a video of Amy Poehler singing the Kenny Loggins’ tune “Whenever I Call You Friend.” Netflix even let fans know who will be starring in the film alongside Poehler. Saturday Night Live veteran female performers Ana Gasteyer, Rachel Dratch, Maya Ruldolph, and Paula Pell will all star. Poehler’s real life BBF Tina Fey will even appear in this film.
The premise for Wine Country hasn’t been fully released. However, the film will follow a group of girlfriends as they tour Napa Valley. With this cast of funny ladies, there will surely be a few drunken antics included in the film that was written by former Saturday Night Live writer Emily Spivey. Spivey was also a writer on Parks and Recreation.
The ladies of SNL have kept themselves quite busy since leaving the late night sketchy show. Dratch has made guest appearances on shows such as Broad City, 30 Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and The Simpsons. Gasteyer starred in the comedy Suburgatory and has a recurring role on The Goldbergs. Ruldolph made us all laugh in the hit films Bridesmaids and Grown Ups. She has made numerous gust appearance on series like Drunk History, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and The Good Place. Fey is the executive producer of Great News and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. She has appeared in front of the camera on both series as well.
