If you’re flipping around the channels you won’t get the reruns on your main network channels but chances are if you come across TV Land or even Nick at Nite there’s a good chance you can catch some Married with Children. If there’s one show that I think would have zero chance at being on television today, it’s Married with Children. I saw an episode yesterday that featured Al in the office of a heavy set woman named “Ms. Blaub.” Honestly this was one of the tamer scenes on the show yet it still centered on him making fun of obese women he didn’t find attractive.
Today’s society and political climate would never, ever let a show like this be on any network today which is why you have to appreciate the old days of Ed O’Neill’s most triumphant character. Married with Children was lewd, crude, full of sexism, making fun of appearances, genders, religions, you name it. Was it all in the name of good fun? Absolutely. But when you watch old clips of the show you can tell that in today’s society only those with super thick skin could not only handle it but might actually laugh.
