Reading the article in GeekTyrant by Joey Paur it almost seems as though Chris Hemsworth wants to recreate The Three Amigos as a way to keep hanging around Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr., but I could be wrong. Maybe it’s the way the article is written or his quote is taken, but it really does seem as though he’s simply looking for another project that could keep the three of them together and hanging out on a more regular basis. That almost sounds like a kid just trying to keep his friends around so that he won’t get lonely, which is hard to believe of Hemsworth, but is hard to shake. It’s kind of understandable since after filming Infinity War and Endgame for so long the guys have had a lot of time to hang out and develop the kind of relationships that tend to last well beyond the movies when it comes to a lot of people. There’s no denying that all three of them are likely busy since Hemsworth is still acting in the MCU at the moment while Evans and RDJ have gone on their separate ways. And to be honest The Three Amigos was a funny movie that was great back in its day, but unless they were going to reboot the movie using the same time period it’s hard to see how it might work.
If you’ve forgotten or don’t know about The Three Amigos it’s a pretty simple movie to recall since it’s about three film stars that were fired after one of their movies bombed and needed to find work. They were then given a job to complete by a woman that needed a dangerous outlaw taken care of since he was terrorizing their own. Unfortunately for the actors they believed that they were being recruited for an acting gig, and as a result they show up looking ridiculous and acting as though it’s another movie, while the villain is understandably confused but also kind of amused. The thought that Hemsworth wants to revisit this isn’t as hard to imagine as other movies might be since The Three Amigos was a fun and engaging movie, but it’s likely one that a lot of people have forgotten about since it wasn’t exactly the kind of movie that created the type of memories that others did. For instance you might remember The Jerk, Innerspace, and even Fletch before you remember this movie. But thinking that Hemsworth wants to remake this movie could be an idea that someone would see as worthwhile, though it might take a while to really see it blossom into anything if someone does pick it up. At this point Hollywood almost seems like a giant recycling center where all a person has to do is mention the name of an old movie to the right person. In some cases this has proven kind of disastrous, but in others it’s actually been widely appreciated by a lot of fans. How people might feel about this one is hard to say since there are fans of the movie, like Hemsworth, and there are those that might have to be reminded why it was so funny.
It’s enough to wonder if Chris knows how to plan his time off so as to reconnect with his buddies when they get the time, since making a movie just to hang out, which likely isn’t the only reason, seems like an extreme that a lot of actors wouldn’t be likely to use. There’s also a lot more to the movie as Anna Green of Mental Floss points out, and it would need to be addressed. If this is a genuine desire it would be great since it might be interesting to see what the three friends could do with this, if anything. Plus, it’s kind of interesting to think about who would play which character if it ever did happen since when you look at Chevy Chase, Martin Short, and Steve Martin you get the impression that RDJ, Evans, and Hemsworth are all kind of too insanely buff and handsome for the roles they’d need to play. Seriously, no joke, one of the reasons this worked, and that any movie starring Chase, Martin, and Sheen worked, is that they’re not bad looking men, but they’re also kind of goofy and off-kilter in their own ways. Evans, RDJ, and Hemsworth have made a living as action heroes, and that’s how people see them, which means that thrusting them into a comedy such as this might evoke a lot of raised eyebrows and smiles that are halfway to a laugh but aren’t certain of the reaction. In other words, just imagine Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man trying to playact in the real world and you might find the reaction that you feel is appropriate.
It’s not a horrible idea, but it would definitely need some work before it could really do anything significant.
