After rereading my review of the first part of the Real Housewives of Atlanta and then watching the second part last night, my opinion hasn’t changed much and I’m still disappointed with the whole thing.
When I say disappointed, I don’t mean that I wanted a physical brawl or someone to leave crying. Basically, if you saw any Watch What Happens Live! episodes that featured the Atlanta women, then you pretty much got the same answers last night as you did then. NeNe even repeated some answers from her WWHL appearances almost verbatim, adding in some extra comments to spice up the show with none of them being as memorable as classic one-liners as “Close Your Legs To Married Men!” With that said, the overall night (and reunion) was extremely tame at best, but nothing to really ‘ponder’ on, if you catch my drift.
The main event, of course, was NeNe vs. Kim and what really started their battle, which they’ve pretty much dubbed as being for keeps. As far as picking sides, I’m not going to go that route, because it’s stupid and kind of redundant given that both were in the wrong on several occasions throughout the season. It’s easy to designate the bus incident as the focal point of who’s wrong and right when it comes to NeNe and Kim, but that’s the point: it’s easy. No one wants to take into account the big picture, the buildup, and the falsity of the relationship to begin with. NeNe can be a handful and downright nasty, but Kim is not too far on the “give me a break” meter herself. It’s like choosing the lesser of two evils with politicians in an election race, you kind of still lose in the end in some way. It was a bit sad to see the clips of their happier times this season, which you couldn’t help but to stop and ask yourself what the hell went wrong. The bottom line in this whole mess is that I pray NeNe and Kim keep up the status quo next year, meaning that they aren’t “befriending” it up for the cameras.
Other topics touched upon were Sheree’s drama with Dr. Tiy-e Muhammad (aka Doctor FAUX), Phaedra’s baby snafu, and Kandi’s issues with Kim concerning “Tardy For The Party.” We knew much didn’t come out of Sheree’s relationship with the self-proclaimed ‘love doctor,’ and we didn’t learn anything new on the subject. However, I’m not surprised that her movie hasn’t started filming yet due to budgetary reasons and I’m going to leave it at that.
Despite the audience and Kandi deducing that Phaedra lied about her pregnancy due date, she gave an even more wild explanation to the weirdest storyline of the season. I could try to tell you what that explanation was (it involved some type of complications), but I’m pretty sure that our original conclusions involving Mama Regina frowning upon birth before marriages is the main reason behind everything. As for the deal surrounding Apollo’s incarceration, the only thing that stuck out to me was the viewer question that was read by Andy Cohen. The viewer demanded for Phaedra to “come clean” about what Apollo really went to jail for, which is basically public knowledge if the person took time out to look for it. The questions this season from viewers (from all the Real Housewives shows) have been severely donkey ridiculous and I can’t help but wonder if Andy only picks them because of how… dumb they are. Yeah, I think that’s probably the reason why…
As for the “Tardy for the Party” debacle, Kim was clearly in the wrong. Yeah, her lawyer was the ‘mastermind’ behind the whole thing, but it was Kim’s place to say she didn’t want it to go down that way. The lawyer works for her, not the other way around. Later on Watch What Happens Live!, Kandi mentioned that things weren’t clear with that issue still, but they are letting their lawyers do all the talking. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not, but Kandi surely has learned a lesson in this whole debacle.
In the end, the whole season was like a huge rollercoaster ride on a day of playing hooky, but the reunions were like the coaster stopping and the truancy officers were waiting on you. However, it was interesting to find out that the women are divided up into factions now, which I hope will play heavily into next season’s storylines, but the alliances might change between now and then knowing this batch of Housewives.
So what did you guys think about the season overall? The reunion? The prospects of what to come? It’s been real, guys. See you this fall!
