Some people’s parents decide to let them try to figure out what they want to do with their lives as they grow up, while others, like Drake Bell’s father, wanted to get him into anything and everything that seemed interesting to find out what he really wanted. Eventually Drake found out that acting was something that caught his interested and gravitated towards the screen. After a while he started making his way to music, but he has yet to really stop being on screen in favor of allowing his music career to take over. Throughout his career thus far he’s managed to balance them both and maintain a career that’s seen him become quite popular to those that will watch his shows. He might not be someone that’s universally known but to those that do know of him Drake is kind of a big deal.
Here are a few things about Drake that some folks might not know.
10. He was injured in an automobile accident in 2005.
Drake was wounded pretty badly and was laid up for a couple of months with some very serious injuries. There was talk of wiring his jaw shut at one point since the damage done was that extensive.
9. Drake made his first appearance in a Whirlpool commercial when he was 5.
He would go on to star in a few other commercials as well and he seemed to enjoy it for the most part since he liked being in front of the camera. Of course when asked he stated that he did it for his father initially since he was the one that convinced him to get into acting.
8. At one point he decided to cut down on his acting career to focus on his music.
This is usually a matter of personal choice as well as self-sacrifice since keeping a music and acting career at the same time is not as easy as it might sound, though a few people throughout history have done the same thing. The multi-taskers of the world however are usually those that can handle the stress that such a life brings, while others kind of need to back off of one aspect and focus on another that makes them happy.
7. He had to file for bankruptcy.
Drake owed around $600,000 at one point. It’s not the millions that other actors have ended up owing, but given the salaries that those individuals in show business pull down from time to time one would think that they might find a way to maintain that fortune rather than spend it so quickly that they end up borrowing and then owing money to creditors. A lot of us that aren’t celebrities easily state that if you have money it’s fun to do something with it, but there’s always the need to save enough for a rainy day.
6. Drake enjoys playing live concerts more than anything.
There’s a level of instant gratification that he enjoys since the truth is the moment that a performer steps on stage people are already geared up to shout and yell in approval and the charge this can give a performer seems quite strong and very positive.
5. He was talked into acting by his dad.
It was more of a convincing act than anything for his dad to determine whether Drake liked acting or not and since it was the one thing that seemed to stick with him this was what he gravitated towards. A lot of parents simply want their kids to be interested in something and there are worse ways to go about trying to convince them to do anything.
4. His cousin is a pitcher in the MLB.
This kind of makes you wonder if he’s allowed to get into a game for a reduced price or if he still has to pay the full fare. Of course this is assuming that he likes baseball, as every celebrity has their favorite sports or events they like to attend.
3. He’s stated that John Lennon is his biggest role model.
Musically-speaking that’s not a bad idea to have him as a role model since he was a legend in his time and in this one considering he belonged to one of the greatest bands to ever be in the music industry.
2. Roger Daltrey from The Who gave him private guitar lessons.
It’s not just anyone that can claim that someone like Roger Daltrey was their mentor in any capacity and it’s something of a feather in his cap that Daltrey even took him under his wing for a bit. That kind of thing sticks with a person for a long time.
1. He has his own music label.
There are those that simply go in to perform and then there are those that want to do more than just perform, they want to create something that’s all their own.
You might know him, you might not, but he’s a certified star all the same, and he’s earned his way.The Who
