You probably already know that Maddie Poppe won season 16 of American Idol. You also know that she can obviously sing and that she’s more than capable of holding her own against some stiff competition, not to mention performing under pressure and dealing with audience members. 1. She auditioned for American Idol once before
She won the season 16 edition of American Idol but she had actually auditioned for the show once before and didn’t make the final cut. She wants her fans to know this because she’s anxious for everyone to realize that sometimes, you have to keep pushing in order for your dreams to come true. She doesn’t want anyone to think that making your dreams happen is easy so she’s quick to point out that she has faced rejection in the past. The thing that finally allowed her to succeed was that she just kept trying.
2. There are scarcely any instruments she can’t play
She’s capable of playing the guitar and the piano, along with several other instruments. She’s always been musically inclined, and there’s really not much that she isn’t capable of playing. She has a knack for it, so it’s easy for her to pick up a new instrument and learn the basics in a matter of a few hours to a few days, as opposed to taking several months to learn how to play something.
3. She actually released a song before she was even on American Idol
She used social media to release an album entitled Songs from the Basement before she even got on American Idol. As you can see, her desire to be in the music business is not just a whim. She’s been determined to make it all along, whether she used American Idol as a springboard or not.
4. She’s been performing for years
As a matter of fact, you might say that music is in her blood. She’s been performing locally for a number of years and her dad has a local band. People in the area are accustomed to seeing her perform with him. Over the years, she’s performed at local talent shows, state and county fairs, and at church.
5. She started making the decision to perform in earnest during Middle School
When she was in Middle School, she started to make up her mind that she wanted to make music her career. Up until that point, most of it had been fun for her but when she started to think about what she wanted to do with the rest of her life, she made the decision that music was indeed the direction she wanted to go in. It’s then that she started working toward building up her performance skills, as well as figuring out how she could make records on her own.
6. She doesn’t like to be forced into doing things she doesn’t enjoy doing
She once commented that when she was still in school, she’d be sitting in class writing songs instead of listening to what was going on. She says that she never has liked to do things that she simply wasn’t interested in doing. That’s one reason why she ultimately decided to pursue music. It’s the thing she’s most interested in, so she decided to go for it instead of wasting her talents while pursuing something she just wasn’t passionate about.
7. She’s always been an independent thinker
She’s always had a knack for thinking for herself and she doesn’t let people push her around. She knows what she wants and she’s capable and intelligent, so she doesn’t have any trouble figuring out what she needs to do to in order to get from one point to the next. That independence is a good thing, especially in an industry that can be so difficult.
8. She also likes being from a small town
Unlike many people, she says that she enjoys being from a small town. It may not be for everybody, but she’s always enjoyed it and she likes being friends with virtually everybody in town.
9. She says she’s not in the music industry to get famous
So many people get into the music industry because they want to be famous. For Maddie, that couldn’t be further from the truth. As a matter of fact, she says that she’s really not interested in being famous at all. However, she is interested in pursuing her dream of writing songs, playing and singing. In other words, she’s in the business for all the right reasons.
10. She’s currently performing and active on social media
She’s developed a real fan following on social media and she still performs on a regular basis. Typically, she will tweet out her performance schedule so her fans know where she’s scheduled to perform next.
