The Absolute Worst Big Brothers in Movies

The Absolute Worst Big Brothers in Movies

Big brothers in real life are kind of a hit and miss thing, but big brothers in movies tend to be some of the worst people at times that you could ever possibly meet. Some of them have redeeming qualities but are still lousy human beings in so many ways that it doesn’t matter. They tend to be mean, rude, obnoxious, and have this strange way of absolutely loving pushing their younger siblings around so that they know who’s in charge. And yet so many of them get their comeuppance in the end that it’s almost sad to think that you end up hating them only to see them get subjugated to a fate that’s sometimes not as deserved.

If it’s not fatal though you secretly cheer if you’re a younger sibling. Go on and admit it.

5. The Godfather-Sonny Corleone

Sonny makes the bottom of this list simply because he’s kind of a jerk and he doesn’t mind if people know it, but he’s still got enough heart to really love his family deep down. It’s simply that he acts like such a heel most of the time that you really can’t feel sorry for him all the time. His death was something that surprised a good number of people since with James Caan you would think that his character would last for a while. But in the end Sonny died because of something that had nothing to do with anything but business.

4. Scarface-Tony Montana

Tony tried to be a good big brother and he loved his sister dearly. But when it came to what she could do, who she could see, and where she could hang out he was a taskmaster. He didn’t want anyone else enjoying her company, I mean come on, he shot his best friend when he found them together in the same house. That’s a very disturbing level of intimacy that Tony wanted with his sister, but eventually it kind of backfired on him.

3. The Good Son-Henry Evans

Henry should be counted as one of the worst but he’s got the edge going for him as far as being a kid. He might have been born bad but there’s no way to tell since he’s depicted as one of the most evil kids to ever grace a screen. He just doesn’t care, but he knows how to act and play things up like he does. He even goes so far as to throw his own sister out into the middle of thin ice just to prove a point to his cousin.

2. The Blue Brothers-Joliet Jake

You might wonder why Jake is so high on this list. It’s really because as close as the Blues Brothers are, their loyalty is still a tenuous thing thanks to the fact that Jake would probably run out on just about anyone if he had the need. Plus he takes advantage of Elwood a lot throughout the movie and Elwood just takes it without complaint. You might think that this is just how brothers are, but in real life a sibling that’s kept down so often eventually does find a way to express themselves.

1. Weird Science-Chet Donnelly

Chet is by far one of the absolute worst big brothers in cinema history. He torments his brother Wyatt for being a skinny little weakling, he picks on Wyatt’s friend Gary, and he’s just an all-around jerk to anyone that doesn’t fit his idea of cool. Chet is the big brother you hope moves away eventually or even gets turned into a pile of crap that can talk, just to show him, well, something.

Big brothers aren’t much of a prize unless you’re that lucky.
