Chocolate chip cookies are a delight pretty much anytime so long as they’re made right. In movies they don’t always have a very prominent role but they can be used as a plot device and to deliver a line. Otherwise their big moment is usually just being mentioned or just being the shot period. Sometimes they get the spotlight, but any movie about a big batch of chocolate chip cookies needs to be something unique enough that the cookie still isn’t the whole idea of the film.
That might get kind of weird unless it was done right.
5. The Aviator
Howard Hughes didn’t mess around when he wanted something apparently. He wanted ten chocolate chip cookies, medium chip, not too close to the outside. Heaven help anyone that didn’t do things the way he wanted them since he was a bit of an eccentric and in some cases seemed almost ill. It could be why the man was kind of a recluse at times and wasn’t always seen in public.
4. Little Giants
Like I mentioned above sometimes cookies are just there. As part of the scenery they’re still something of an important part of the movie even if they’re more of a product placement than anything. You’ll notice when Becky is standing near the shelves that Chips Ahoy is clearly visible. I kind of wonder how much money had to be exchanged in order for this to happen. It was kind of a low-budget movie though so it couldn’t have been too much.
3. The Matrix
Just like everything else in the Matrix the cookie was just another program added into the entire mess that was the system. I wonder though if the cookie was the last little bit that Neo needed to believe in himself, or if it was just a bit of code that was fed to him in order to get him to make up his mind about what he’d seen and heard. Keanu just seemed kind of confused throughout most of the movie.
2. The Breakfast Club
Andrew was a wrestler, and boy could the guy eat. He wasn’t the smartest guy in the bunch but he was definitely the strongest and the best fighter. Even Bender got taken down in a heartbeat when he tried to show Andrew up, and Bender had at least a few inches and some extra weight on him. That’s the thing about wrestlers though, they’re quick, strong, and for some reason a lot of them have something to prove it seems.
1. Bruce Almighty
Here’s where the cookie gets to be the star for just a short part of the movie, but it’s enough to think that it’s something special. This is certainly a big cookie but I don’t think it actually holds the record. If I’m wrong and it does then I can’t even think of the dynamics of how they would get something this big to cook so evenly and not be burned in various spots. For a movie prop though it’s pretty cool.
And that’s the way the cookie crumbles.
