New York Fashion Week is definitely the place to be, especially if you’re a budding supermodel. And that’s exactly where we found Kaia Gerber recently, strutting the stuff her momma gave her–to the most literal sense of that statement. Gerber happens to be the daughter of one of the industry’s most familiar and beloved models, Cindy Crawford, and if you take one short glance at the 16-year old, you’ll know for sure that she’s the daughter. Gerber’s uncanny resemblance to her mom is only the beginnings of their similarities; it seems that Gerber also managed to inherit her mom’s runway skills.
Gerber showed her appreciation and excitement via Instagram, thanking designer Raf Simon for the opportunity. Simon’s designs were inspired by the “idealized American teenager,” and it’s a combination of vintage, cowboy, varsity, and all-around high school. The look oddly makes sense and is quite fitting, too, for all the young ones that paraded the looks. As for Gerber’s look, she donned yellow satin pants and a black satin long-sleeved button down over a light blue turtleneck. The cowboy boots finished the look along with Gerber’s natural look.
Many people were impressed by her performance including her ex-supermodel mom and older brother Presley. Crawford said that her daughter looked comfortable as she modeled, as if she truly belonged. NYFW always gathers the most elite crowd in the fashion and celebrity world, and we saw some famous names on the front row of the Calvin Klein show. While she’s definitely no stranger to the spotlight because of her mom, Gerber’s NYFW debut might be a sign of what’s to come. Gerber does have a couple of movies under her belt, but she might be leaning more towards modeling than acting. She modeled for Teen Vogue when she was only 13 and landed Versace’s junior line as her first modeling gig when she was only 10. She’s also the new face of Marc Jacobs’ fragrance Daisy.
If that isn’t a sign of a future in modeling, Gerber also happens to hang around a similar crowd. She’s modeled with some of this generation’s most popular Insta-models, the Hadid sisters, Kendall Jenner, and Karlie Kloss. Gerber definitely has the genes for the industry, and she sure has the inkling towards it. Aside from the Calvin Klein show at NYFW, Gerber also did Alexander Wang’s 2018 show, which actually opened with her walk, as she strutted the streets with a short white dress, her signature brown hair down and flowing as she strutted on.
The debut at the NYFW is proof that the young girl can definitely hold her own. She’s definitely got the looks for it, and she’s also got the personality to keep her grounded much like her mom was. She’s also got her own taste, her own style, and her own view of things that are quite apparent in the way she dresses and the way she carries herself. We’re excited to see what the future holds for Gerber, and what Gerber can ultimately bring into the world of fashion.
