2024 marks the 20th year release anniversary of Jessy Terrero’s 2004 comedy Soul Plane with its hilarious cast. Soul Plane, Jessy Terrero’s feature debut, was released theatrically in the United States on May 28, 2004. Although a critical and commercial flop, Soul Plane grew a cult following over the years.
Its plot centered around Nashawn Wade, who won a lawsuit against an airline after suffering an embarrassing experience onboard. With a love for planes since childhood, Nashawn starts his own airline (N.W.A) with a $100 million settlement. Determined to make the flying experience worthwhile, Nashawn’s airline brings the soul experience onboard. Going down memory lane, here are Soul Plane’s cast and where they are today.
Kevin Hart as Nashawn Wade
American actor and comedian Kevin Hart led the Soul Plane cast as Nashawn Wade. Hart made his debut on Judd Apatow’s sitcom Undeclared two years earlier in 2002. The 2004 Soul Plane was Kevin Hart’s fifth feature film. Since then, Kevin Hart has had a successful comedy and acting career. He’s currently one of the most sought-after African-American comic actors in Hollywood. In the last two decades, Hart has starred in several film series, including Think Like a Man, Ride Along, and Jumanji. He has also Starred in several commercially successful movies. In 2024, Kevin Hart starred in Netflix’s comedy Lift and the science fiction action-comedy Borderlands.
Snoop Dogg as Captain Antoine Mack
American rapper, record producer, and actor Snoop Dogg added to the movie’s hilarity. He played Captain Antoine Mack, who’s hired as N.W.A’s pilot. However, with the plane at a cruising altitude, it’s discovered he has no flight experience. Besides learning to fly on computer simulators in prison, Antoine Mack has a fear of heights. With his acting debut in 1994, Soul Plane, alongside his other movies in 2004, marked Snoop Dogg’s decade-long career. The rapper has also continued to star in movies, with his latest starring role on Amazon’s sports comedy-drama The Underdoggs. Musically, Snoop Dogg is the twentieth studio album scheduled for release in July 2024.
The Hunkee Family
Led by actor and comedian Tom Arnold, who played Elvis Hunkee, the Hunkee family were one of the passengers on the N.W.A flight. Tom Arnold played the nerdy father of two, with Missi Pyle playing his new, younger wife, Barbara Hunkee. The Hunkee kids were played by then-19-year-old Arielle Kebbel (Heather Hunkee) and 16-year-old Ryan Pinkston (Billy Hunkee).
Since then, Tom Arnold has had an active acting career. On television, Arnold recently appeared as a guest in a 2023 episode of True Lies and FUBAR. Also, he played Gary in the 2024 comedy-drama thriller Final Wager. Missi Pyle’s last credits were the 2023 Harlan Coben’s Shelter miniseries, Empire Waist (2024), and All That We Love (2024).
Soul Plane was Arielle Kebbel’s feature debut. Kebbel has reprised her role as Kimberly in the After film series since 2021 and played Frankie in the 2024 movie Summer Camp. She also plays Emily Wright ‘Em’ in the Rescue: HI-Surf TV series. Although Ryan Pinkston has had an active career, he’s had more projects on television. He played Downtown Bruno in the Young Rock TV series and guest-starred in a 2023 episode of Grey’s Anatomy as Carlton Allyn.
Method Man as Muggsy
Rapper, record producer, and actor Method Man also joined Soul Plane’s cast in a supporting role. He was cast as Muggsy, Nashawn Wade’s cousin. Method Man has been active musically and as an actor in the past decades. He plays criminal defense attorney Davis MacLean on Starz’s Power Book II: Ghost. He also played Jordan in the 2024 comedy Bad Shabbos.
K. D. Aubert as Giselle
Actress and fashion model K. D. Aubert played Kevin Hart’s love interest, Giselle, in the 2004 Soul Plane. The beautiful actress was one of the highlights of the movie. Although she isn’t as popular as she was in the 2000s, Aubert still has an active acting career. In 2023, she starred in four B-rated feature movies, with her last appearance in the comedy Bomb Pizza.
Godfrey as First Officer Leslie Gaemon
Nigerian-American comedian, impressionist, and actor Godfrey joined the Soul Plane cast as First Officer Leslie Gaemon. The character was Snoop Dogg character’s African accented co-pilot. Although Godfrey has had other acting roles since then, he’s majorly worked on projects as a voice actor. In 2023, Godfrey played Jimmy on Netflix’s romantic comedy The Perfect Find. He recently voiced Mr. Beef on Human Resources (2022) and an A.I. Voice in I’m a Virgo (2023).
N.W.A Hostesses & Steward
The eccentric trio of Blanca, Tamika, and Flame made the flight experience on N.W.A memorable. These air hostesses and steward characters were played by Sofía Vergara, Angell Conwell, and Gary Anthony Williams. Of the three, Sofía Vergara has had more success in her acting career, becoming one of the highest-paid Latina actresses in Hollywood.
Although still having an active career, Angell Conwell’s last acting credit was in 2021, having played Veronica in Bigger TV series. Earlier, she played Lisa in Family Time from 2012 to 2020. Gary Anthony Williams landed the voice role of Uncle Ruckus In The Boondocks the next year. He voiced the character until 2014. Besides a few live-action roles, Williams mostly takes on voice-acting projects.
Other Notable Cast Members
Stand-up comedian and actress Mo’Nique played airport security Jamiqua. Although she has appeared in fewer films in the last decade, she starred in the 2023 supernatural horror movie The Reading and the 2024 supernatural horror thriller The Deliverance. Soul Plane also cast actor and stand-up comedian D.L. Hughley as Johnny. D.L. Hughley has also had fewer starring roles in the last decade. His last feature film was in 2008, but he played Eugene Johnson in the Johnson TV series from 2021 to 2022.
Terry Crews played the bouncer on the plane’s VIP section, while John Witherspoon played the blind pervert on the flight. Terry Crews has had success as an actor and TV personality. He reprises his role as Jesse Aaronson/Bedlam in the 2024 Deadpool & Wolverine and plays Lovedahl in The Killer’s Game (2024). Crews hosts America’s Got Talent since season 14, and voices Duane Williams in Craig of the Creek. Sadly, Hollywood lost John Witherspoon on October 29, 2019, at age 77.
