The Wahlburgers may not be as popular as they once were, but the show still has a dedicated fan base that tunes in to watch the antics of Mark and Donnie as they playfully torment their brother Paul. While Paul usually takes it all in stride, there are undoubtedly moments when having famous siblings can be a real headache, especially when they meddle in his area of expertise. However, there’s a lot about the show that’s likely scripted and not entirely genuine, just to keep viewers hooked. There are also several things about the Wahlburgers that they might prefer to keep under wraps or simply not publicize.
1. Humble Beginnings
When the Wahlberg boys were young, their family had next to nothing. They had to borrow money just so the kids could have clothes for the holidays and the rest of the school year. Needless to say, that’s no longer an issue.
2. A Big, Close-Knit Family
You might not know this, but the Wahlberg family actually consists of nine children, not just the three you see on the show. Their mother had to raise all nine as best she could, and she is honored for her efforts with a restaurant named after her.
3. Cooking Runs in the Family
Paul isn’t the only talented cook in the family. Their mother, Alma, is also a great cook. Many of the items on the Wahlburgers’ menu are there because they are her children’s favorite dishes.
4. New Kids on the Block Gave Them a Boost
The boy band New Kids on the Block was a huge success in its time and helped the Wahlberg family out immensely. Mark was supposed to join the group but went off to start his own group instead.

Mark spent some time in jail as a youth and had to straighten himself out in order to lead the life he has now.
6. Mark: The Worst Singer Ever?
Rolling Stone magazine went on record stating that they believed Marky Mark to be the worst singer ever recorded.
7. Literary and Musical Connections
Though it’s a distant relation, the Wahlbergs are actually descended from Nathaniel Hawthorne in a way. They are also distant relatives of Celine Dion and Madonna. It’s a small world.
8. Licensing the Restaurant Name
There is actually another Wahlburgers in Rochester, New York. The Wahlberg family took the necessary steps to use the name for their own establishment.
9. Big Plans for Expansion
At this point, the Wahlbergs are considering building another 20 restaurants based on their success. They are also thinking about moving at least one of them into Canada.
10. A Spin-Off Show
Donnie Loves Jenny is a direct spin-off of the Wahlburgers show and has been on the air since 2015.
While not all of the secrets they keep are necessarily scandalous, it’s easy to see why the Wahlbergs might prefer to keep some of these facts on the down-low.
