If you were watching virtually any network television channel yesterday there’s a good chance you saw the official Wonder Woman trailer. Marketing for the film has went from virtually non existent to defcon 1 in literally the last week. And now I have to admit that I’m starting to understand why the marketing was so thin. While I never judge a movie based on trailers, I’m just not buying into this movie right now.
The only footage I’ve seen outside of trailers was that one alley way scene that we posted the other day. I wasn’t bullish on that and I’m just not bullish on this movie. And believe me, I get sucked in by a pretty face more often that not. But even Gal Gadot’s stunning figure and looks won’t get me to the theaters. You know what the problem is? Even though it’s a different superhero with a different set of skills, I keep thinking of Captain America every single time I see footage from Wonder Woman.
Maybe that’s what the movie is trying to invoke but I’m thinking “why not just watch Captain America?” Maybe it’s the time period and that’s what’s throwing me off? And I haven’t been amused by Chris Pine’s character at all. I feel like the marketing would have been way better if they didn’t release any footage at all and just kept showing posters of Gadot.
I don’t know. Maybe this is going to be a great film because we all know how many times trailers have been amazing and the movie has sucked. Perhaps the opposite is happening here because frankly I don’t like this trailer at all.
