Some stories are filled with horror, some with challenges, and some with triumph. And then there are stories like that of Dr. Ruth Westheimer that have a bit of all three in them due to the extraordinary life she’s led throughout the last nine decades, almost. Sergio Carmona from the Jewish Journal has been pretty upfront and on point about the documentary that’s coming out on the life of Dr. Ruth in short order since it is one of many movies that you should consider watching considering how impressive the subject is and how her life has touched so many during her time on this earth. Dr. Ruth has been a mainstay in American culture since the 1980s and has been someone that people have looked up to and gone to for advice throughout the many years since she decided to become a sex therapist. In fact her name has become synonymous with many aspects of America throughout that time and there are still many aspects that people might not know about her thanks to that level of fame.
Kathleen Thompson from the Jewish Women’s Archive has gone on to detail just how Dr. Ruth came to America and what she went through during her earliest years. The good doctor was a Holocaust survivor and lost her entire family during that horrible time, and to this day carries the memories of those traumatic times. One might think that such memories would only serve to connect her to a past that was anything but pleasant, but it would appear that while the tragedy is still there, Ruth has managed to push forward and become someone that others can emulate and look up to while taking their own amount of inspiration when it comes to shaping their own lives. Dr. Ruth has touched so many people during her career that it seems fair to say that her advice has helped to shape America in a way throughout the last few decades and beyond.
From living in an orphanage and having next to nothing Ruth worked her way up to where she is now with a net worth of roughly $3 million, meaning that she’s amassed a great deal of respect, regard, and overall prestige throughout her career. Throughout her life she’s been married three times and had a couple of kids and now has grandchildren that she can tell the story of her life to, and she does just that it sounds like in a manner that is both positive and uplifting as well as memorable. If there’s no other reason to watch the show then learning how she worked her way up from the bottom might be why it would be important to take the time to sit down and pay attention. Apart from that it’s the silent celebration of a life that has been lived in a way that could have gone much differently had she decided to simply allow her pain and anguish to guide her rather than the grit and determination she needed to keep moving forward. Back in the days that saw her alone and adrift in the world she didn’t have much to cling to, but she made do with what she had and created something for herself that made it possible to become the woman she is now.
Such stories sometimes seem like hit or miss when they come out, though Ruth’s seems like it might be something that will garner enough interest since people have known of her name for so long and she’s been a part of American culture for nearly four decades now. Given that she’s about to celebrate her 9oth birthday this coming June it seems as though some congratulations are in order and the best way to do this in some peoples’ opinion would be to look back upon a life that she’s created that people have noticed and appreciated for a long time. The kind of triumphs that she’s had to seek on her own have been moments in which she’s shown that she’s far tougher than many and possessed of a will that is ironclad as no matter how hard things got she was able to keep moving forward, one foot in front of the other as she went on to become someone that people couldn’t help but idolize in their own various ways. Bringing forth a documentary that’s dedicated to her life is perhaps one of the most sincere forms of thanks that anyone could possibly give her, and hearing her story from her own lips will no doubt be something that many people are willing to sit and listen to.
The story she has to tell is no doubt going to be a good one, and the life she has to show us will likely be something that no one across the generations will ever forget.
