In September of 1997, the Tokyo Broadcasting System started airing a TV show called Sasuke, which is a reference to a famous ninja of the Sengoku period called Sarutobi Sasuke. It saw people competing to complete a four-stage obstacle course, thus explaining its name. Over time, Sasuke became so popular that it inspired a number of spin-offs, with one example being a female version called Kunoichi and another example being its international counterparts.
American Ninja Warrior is the American version of Sasuke. Similar to its source, it sees hundreds and hundreds of competitors struggling to complete a series of ever more challenging obstacle courses, which will provide them with the right to take on the national finals held in Los Vegas. So far, it has run for eight seasons, which doesn’t include either the ninth season that is set to start in summer of 2017 or the specials that have been broadcast up to this point in time.
In 2015, an announcement was made for a new spin-off of American Ninja Warrior, which would be called Team Ninja Warrior. Like its name suggests, it saw numerous teams of three competing for the right to take on the finale, which would see one team take home the prize as the final winner. However, it is important to note that there are a number of changes that can make it even more appealing for people who love such TV shows.

At its core, Team Ninja Warrior is much the same TV show as American Ninja Warrior.
