Watch a 97-Year-Old Grandfather Loving his First Tesla Ride

How much has changed in nearly a century? When this 97-old grandfather gets to take his first ride in a Tesla it’s kind of amusing because he’s so blown away by the experience. A lot of us tend to laugh and get a good hearty chuckle out of showing our grandparents our brand new toys that are a product of the current day and what is still to come, but their reactions tend to vary from mildly impressed to to extremely dismissive. This gentleman however seemed to be quite impressed and couldn’t seem to believe what he was seeing.

That’s understandable really. The Tesla is just one of many electric cars that have been making their way to consumers over the past several years and are touted as being the wave of the future when it comes to driving. As you could see from the clip they have almost instantaneous acceleration, almost no noise at all when they run, and offer a wide variety of luxuries that are all accessible by the console in the front dash.

It almost seems like the console would be too distracting however, though so are the buttons, dials,  and knobs in a regular, gas-engine vehicle. The Tesla is, more or less, a welcome change to the automobile industry since it relies not at all on gasoline and draws energy straight from a specialized outlet that can be installed in a person’s garage. It charges in around 3 hours and can last for up to 300 kilometers or more. That’s an impressive feat for an automobile that’s running solely on battery power.

More amusing though is the grandfather’s reaction the sudden acceleration of the vehicle as his grandson hits the pedal to show him the instant response of the vehicle. The car flies ahead without any hitch or need to work itself up to speed. It takes a simple push of the pedal and it’s going. He just can’t get over the fact that the car is completely electric and doesn’t need anything but to be charged each evening so it can be relied upon the next day.

You’ve got to remember though that back in his day this individual most likely saw cars as a luxury and not a necessity. In the 1920’s to 60’s at the very least a lot of families didn’t own a car. They either could not afford one or simply had no need of one. In his time a car was built around gas-fueled engine and was a much simpler machine than what they have today. In those days there was no such thing as a console that could heat your seat or a rear view camera that could show you what was behind you. If you wanted your backside to be warm you were out of luck and if you wanted to see what was behind you then you turned around.  Rear view mirrors were invented in 1911 but they weren’t considered a standard piece of equipment until the 1970’s.

Needless to say, this grandfather had the ride of his life with his grandson, and it was fun to watch.
