The Trailer of The Post Has Been Released

In the times when the press exposed the sexual abuse allegations of a Hollywood mogul, a movie studio blocking the press’ privilege on its screenings and a sitting president condemning the press for its “unfair” reports about him, the timing of the release of the official trailer of Steven Spielberg’s next movie, The Post, couldn’t be more better.

Based on a true story, The Post follows the unlikely partnership between The Washington Post‘s Katharine Graham (Meryl Streep), the first female publisher of a major American newspaper, and editor Ben Bradlee (Tom Hanks), as they race to catch up with The New York Times to expose a massive cover-up of government secrets that spanned three decades and four U.S. Presidents. The two must overcome their differences as they risk their careers — and their very freedom — to help bring long-buried truths to light.

The movie is expected to be an awards season contender given the pedigree of the people involved. Screenings will be conducted to guilds and awards voters starting later this month. It is expected to be a Best Picture contender at the Oscars. Given the timeliness of the film’s subject matter, the voters wouldn’t resist on voting for the film especially when there’s Spielberg, Streep, and Hanks involved. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Streep is going for her fourth Oscar or Hanks for his third.

Spielberg also produces the film alongside Amy Pascal and Kristie Macosko Krieger. The script was written by Liz Hannah and Josh Singer. Alison Brie, Carrie Coon, David Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Tracy Letts, Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Paulson, Jesse Plemons, Matthew Rhys, Michael Stuhlbarg, Bradley Whitford, and Zach Woods co-star in the film.

The Post will be in limited release on December 22, followed by a wide release on January 12, 2018. You can watch the official trailer here:
