England is mourning the loss of actor Robert Hardy who passed away this August. He was one of the country’s most beloved and enduring actors who appeared in countless television series and films throughout his long career. Robert’s given name was Timothy Sydney Robert Hardy and his nickname was Tim. He was a brilliant character actor and fans looked forward to each new role he would appear in. 1. Winston Churchill in “The Woman He Loved” (1988)

This film tells the love story that unfolded for Edward III and Wallis Simpson, a divorcee from America. Edward abdicated his throne in order to be with the woman that he had fallen in love with. Robert Hardy played the part of Prime Minister Winston Churchill in this romantic drama. Of course, he did an amazing job of looking out for the interests of the country and played the part of the elder statesman to perfection. This was one of Hardy’s better characters, although he has played so many. It was not his first time playing Churchill which stands as a testimony that he was definitely the right actor for the part.

2. Cornelius Fudge in the “Harry Potter” franchise

Hardy played the Minister of Magic, Cornelius Fudge for each installment of the “Harry Potter” series of films. He consistently traveled to the Hogwarts school to seek the assistance of Dumbledore when he found him self in need of advice. The two had several disagreements through the years. Fudge is the character that had a real problem with Harry when he asserted that Voldemort had reappeared. This made us wonder if the character was on the wrong side of good. He ended up stepping down when the proof showed that Harry was right.

3. Sir John Middleton “Sense and Sensibility (1995)

Hardy played the role of Sir John Middleton, an older man who evidenced a dry sense of humor. He played the character with precision, adapting the traits that included a talent for pointing out the obvious to those who seemed to avoid its acknowledgement. Even his mother was not exempt from his dry wit if she was careless enough to stand in the line of fire. As Middleton, Hardy captured the true essence of a smart-aleck.

4. Dr. Krempe in “Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein” (1994)

This film was nominated for an Oscar along with numerous other prestigious awards. It tells the story of the young scientist Victor Frankenstein who creates a creature by using different parts of dead bodies. He uses an invention that he has created to electrify the body and bring it back to life. The creature is not what he had hoped it would be and when Frankenstein rejects him, he runs off to plot his revenge.

5. Dick Carlton in “The Spy Who Came in From the Cold” (1965)

Robert Hardy appeared in this award winning film along with Richard Burton and Claire Bloom. The movie tells the story of a British agent in the 1960s, who doesn’t want to abandon the cold war. He is offered another mission, which he knows may be his last, but he accepts it anyway. He deals with massive bureaucracy while he investigates the cases of British Scientist who have been brainwashed as well as their kidnapping.
