The Real Housewives of Atlanta 4.13 Review: The Safari Begins…

The Real Housewives of AtlantaAfter a week’s absence, the Real Housewives of Atlanta returned to their regular schedule last night to wreck shop on our TV screens. However, the untimely death of Whitney Houston and the much-anticipated Grammys tribute might have overshadowed the Atlanta Housewives’ return, because compared to the reality that struck Hollywood this weekend last night’s episode was even more trivial than usual. Until the last 10 to 15 minutes of the hour, that is.

The Marlo vs. Sheree shouting match reached its conclusion within the first 5 minutes of the episode, but the animosity didn’t stop there. While I declared Marlo as the winner of the argument in the last review, she quickly made me want to rescind my generosity after being a complete ass for the rest of the episode. From “making it rain” in a night club (to spite Sheree) to giving Sheree the finger as a form of a greeting (in same night club), Marlo really showed her ass and was equal to nails scratching the hell out of a chalkboard the entire time.

While NeNe and Cynthia ‘babysat’ their charge (aka Marlo) at a club, Sheree took Kandi and Phaedra to her friend Kevin’s dinner party, which consisted of up-and-coming entrepreneurs who were more starstruck than professional. The scene was mostly forgettable except for Kevin’s reaction when Phaedra mentioned that she was a budding mortician. Not knocking anyone with that profession, but I don’t think that’s something you eagerly bring up at a dinner party. Just saying.

Another issue that arose included Cynthia growing more and more annoyed at Marlo, or Marlo’s growing friendship with NeNe, which the Smalls can’t help but notice. Don’t worry, Cynthia. NeNe will get tired of trying to train Marlo in being a woman soon.

Besides the Smalls and the Talls tension throughout the episode, the women finally started their safari and experienced a multitude of sights along the way. One of the most memorable moments of the night came as the women brought local school children and residents some food and toiletries. It was a selfless gesture that garnered respect from this blogger even if Marlo tainted it a bit by wanting to get the little girls some perms for their hair. Le sigh…

The episode ended with the women making one last stop at an orphanage for sick and abused children. After passing out the rest of their gifts to the kids and enjoying a song from the young ones, the women set off into the sunset, feeling good about their good deeds of the day.

Other moments to note of the night include Marlo’s middle-finger greeting for Sheree, because even though it was childish and completely uncalled for, it was still a little funny.

Next week’s episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta will be the last part of the South African trip (Thank God…). Sheree stirs the pot between the already fragile relationship between Kandi and Kim, who is all the way in Atlanta. Plus, NeNe will also go on a Kim tirade of her own, while Marlo will continue to annoy the hell out of the woman and us in general.
