Married At First Sight is an American reality romance show based on the Danish show Gift Ved Første Blik. It takes the concept of “love at first sight” to a higher level by having its participants marry on the first encounter. Though, the matches are not random and are crafted by experts in the show.
The list below will revisit the lives of some experts and couples of Married At First Sight. It will check in with where the experts are as of November 2023. Also, it will look over the romantic lives of select couples, seeing if they are still together or not.
1. Greg Epstein
Greg Epstein was among the experts in the show, particularly appearing in its first three seasons. He was one of the four experts of Season 1, alongside Joseph Cilona, Logan Levkoff, and Pepper Schwartz. Though, he was a non-permanent expert in the show’s long run.
In August 2021, Epstein was elected as the president of the Harvard Chaplains Organization. He currently serves in the post as of November 2023, though it has always been a controversial one due to Epstein’s irreligiosity. He has written books whose titles even point to his atheism, and Paumgarten of The New Yorker described Epstein’s election as comparable to the College of Cardinals electing a nihilist pope.
2. Pepper Schwartz
Dr. Pepper Schwartz was one of the best matchmakers and blind date arrangers of Married at First Sight. Her sexology and sociology background allowed her to understand the romantic needs of the people who came into the show and craft possible dates for them. Dr. Schwartz appeared as an expert in all 16 seasons.
Her website notes Dr. Schwartz as the current “Love and Relationship Expert and Ambassador” for the American Association of Retired Persons. She also writes for the said association and is giving lectures about “intimate relationships, sexuality, and women’s wellbeing.” She is also a professor at the University of Washington in Seattle.
3. Jamie Otis
While Jamie Otis was a recurring character in the Married at First Sight franchise, she was and had never been a relationship expert, unlike the first two in this list. Otis first appeared in the show’s Season 1, where she was matched with Doug Hehner, with whom she is still happily married as of November 2023. She was then the host of the show’s Unfiltered spin-off.
After her match and marriage with Hehner in 2014, there has always been this question “What happened to Otis and her husband?” Through ups and downs, the couple stood firm together and bore two children, Henley Grace (born 2017) and Hendrix Douglas (born 2020).
4. Nicole and Christopher (Season 16)
With the most notable non-participant cast done, this list will now move on to some note-worthy couples with one common denominator: they were matched successfully in the show. The first one is Nicole Lilienthal and Christopher Thielk of Season 16. The couple was remarkable for being the only ones to stay married out of all couples of Season 16.
So this feat begs the question, “Do they stay married after the cameras shut down?” The answer to that is a happy “Yes.” They are still happily married and an Instagram post from Christopher showed that they have moved to their new home on September 9, 2023.
5. Alexis and Justin (Season 15)
The relationship between Alexis Williams and Justin Hall shook the show’s fans at the last minute. They were among the three couples who decided to stay together on Decision Day. However, that decision was short-lived, as Alexis changed her mind the next day.
Okay, they are no longer together, but how are their separate lives going? Alexis has been open about her bisexuality and mentioned that she is dating a woman in her appearance in Season 16. On the other hand, Justin has revealed that he was diagnosed with Klinefelter Syndrome, which he shared on Instagram on October 23, 2023.
6. Briana and Vincent (Season 12)
It’s another “Yes” for Briana Myles and Vincent Morales from Season 12. Not only it is a “Yes” on the Decision Day, but also a “Yes” to their togetherness as of October 2023. They are the only couple from Season 12 that has stood the test of time. News of their first child roamed online in July 2022. Their child, Aury Bella, was then born in January 2023. “Our little lucky charm is finally here,” Brianna wrote on Instagram.
7. Katina and Olajuwon (Season 14)
However, for Katina Goode and Olajuwon Dickerson, “Yes” was not the answer to their “happily ever after.” Despite actually staying together on Decision Day, it was revealed that the couple divorced a year later. This Season 14 couple has received a lot of criticism due to their massive differences, though they proved their critics wrong by staying married, which did not play well in the end.
8. Taylor and Brandon (Season 10)
The relationship between the two did not end with a divorce or a happy ever after like the other couples in this list. They did not stay together on the Decision Day and had their marriage annulled. Their post-relationship was also quite chaotic, to say the least, with the couple filing restraining orders against each other at some point.
