Technically The 5 Worst Fictional Fathers on Television Right Now

There have been some really great TV dads to grace our screens over the years. There’s Mike Brady, Phillip Banks, and Ray Barone to name a few. These men were caring, loving, nurturing, and only wanted what was best for their families. But as the saying goes, every yin has its yang. On the opposite end of the spectrum television has presented many fathers that are the exact opposite of the men listed above. Adultery, murder, abuse, you name it, and these guys have done it. Today I’m going to reveal 5 of the worst fictional fathers on TV right now. Trust me, the guys on this list won’t be winning father of the year anytime soon. Let’s start with this animated father who we all love despite his iffy parenting.

5. Homer Simpson (The Simpsons)

Homer Simpson is caring, funny, and undeniably loves his children. But strangling your son whenever he gets out of line makes you a bad dad without a doubt. Homer also drinks a bit too much, screws off at his job, and isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. But overall he has good intentions and tries to be a good father and husband.

4. George Bluth Sr. (Arrested Development)

This Real Estate tycoon was turned inmate due to his “creative accounting” practices at “The Bluth Company.” Due to this, the company was left in shambles. Who has to struggle to clean up this mess? His family and George could care less. In fact, he only shows interest in the turmoil he has caused when he’s manipulating and undermining his sons in an attempt to exert control over the company. But that’s not the full length of George Bluth Sr’s misdeeds. His wife and mother of his children Lucille announced she wanted a divorce when she realized George had been satisfying her sexual needs by swapping himself with his identical twin brother Oscar. “Wow” is an understatement.

3. Rowan Pope (Scandal)

How does this sound for a bad dad? In season 3 of Scandal, Rowan Pope planned to keep Olivia Pope & Fitz Grant apart from each other. How did he plan to do it? He sent Jake Ballard to gain Olivia’s trust and spark a relationship with her; he also instructed Jake to sleep with her. Sound conniving enough? Well, he took it a step further. He wants Cyrus Beene to show the tape of Jake and Olivia making love to Fitz in order to keep Fitz away from Olivia for good. Did we mention that Rowan is Olivia’s dad?…insane…

2. Jorge Castillo (How To Get Away With Murder)

Jorge Castillo clearly loves his daughter Laurel. But to him, that means that he has the right to control her every action by any means necessary. Which is why he had no problem ordering the murder of his daughter’s boyfriend Wes, who was also the father of his unborn grandchild. That’s cold.

1. Peter Griffin (Family Guy)

Millions tune into Family Guy every week and laugh almost uncontrollably at Peter Griffin’s antics. It’s hilarious, but you can’t deny he’s a pretty horrible father. He calls his daughter ugly in ever more clever ways week after week, he cheated on his wife with a cardboard cutout of Kathy Ireland, had an Ipecac drinking contest with his sons and his dog to see who gets the last slice of pie, and a whole lot more. Honestly, I think you can count on one hand how many times Peter Griffin has been a positive influence in his children’s lives. Thank God he’s only an animated character.

Conclusion

The bar for televisions bad father’s was first set by Homer Simpson in the late 80’s. Every few years since then TV writers have upped the ante. If history is any indicator of what the future holds, there’s clearly a lot more bad father’s to come. See ya in few years.
