What is Super Sick Monday and Should You Take Advantage?

So just to be clear, Super Sick Monday is the day after the Super Bowl and whether or not you should take advantage of this is up to you. But before you do make certain you know just how your boss is going to react and if they are bound to call in as well. There are a few reasons why a person would call in sick the next day. One could be that they ate too much and are in fact physically ill from overconsumption, which isn’t too likely but could possibly happen. Another is that they had a few too many while watching the game and feel like they’re going to die as the alcohol is coming back up and bringing a few friends with it. Yet another could be that the New England Patriots won another Super Bowl…..wait, did I say that out loud? I’m kidding, kind of, sort of, but not really. Eagles fans might be the only ones calling in sick if that’s the case.

It doesn’t matter who wins really since Super Sick Monday is all about recuperating and just taking it easy to either revel in the fact that your team won or try to pick up the pieces after your team loses. People just want a day to relax after a day spent preparing and pumping themselves up for a Super Bowl party that is essentially the culmination of an entire season. After all, 32 teams vie for the top spot all season long and once the final two get there it’s a big deal for the fans that have been following them the entire way. This is a big deal to fans that have been hoping and praying all season that their teams will be one of the last two standing, and at the end will be the ones hoisting the Lombardi Trophy high above the field. That means that at the Super Bowl party there’s going to be a lot of good food, good drink, and good times right up until the final seconds have ticked down.

At that point the fans of the winners will be going absolutely nuts, while the fans of the losers might be drowning their sorrows as they keep telling each other ‘next year’. Being a Seahawks fan I can tell you that I’m more interested in seeing the Patriots lose and will accept an Eagles win simply because it means that the Patriots will have a short trip home to adoring fans that will still love them come next season. The same can be said of the Eagles, since any team that gets this far has proven that they’re worth something and shouldn’t be hanging their heads if they lose. Last season a lot of Falcons fans did just that since their team had a solid chance to put the Patriots down and somehow blew it in the second half.

Super Sick Monday is coming, and it’s bound to be a day of joyful reflection for some and the day after the end of the season for others.
