Stranger Things Season 2 is still many months away, but TVLine is now reporting some very welcome (if not incredibly surprising) news about the Netflix drama’s second season. According to sources close to the site, it has been confirmed that Millie Bobby Brown will reprise her role as Eleven in Stranger Things Season 2.
Although TVLine could not guarantee how many episodes Brown will be in during the show’s second season, the site claims that it’s very likely she’ll be a series regular again, which would make sense given the popularity of both the actress and the character she portrayed. Eleven was the most buzzed about character following the first season of Stranger Things, which debuted on Netflix this past July, and Brown was easily the breakout star of the series. However, her return for Season 2 was called into question this summer, not only because Eleven’s fate was left very uncertain after the Season 1 finale but also because of comments made by Stranger Things creators, the Duffer Brothers.
“We don’t know about Eleven,” Ross Duffer told EW.com back in August, when discussing who from the show would be back for Season 2. “We leave that up in the air.”
Stranger Things Season 2 picks up about a year after the events of the show’s first season, taking place in the fall of 1984. In addition to more Joe Keery (Steve) and Noah Schnapp (Will), who have both been promoted to series regulars, the Netflix series will also welcome newcomers Sadie Sink (American Odyssey), who will play the “tough and confident” Max, and David Montgomery (Power Rangers), who will take on the role of Max’s “hyper-confident” and “edgy” older stepbrother.
Stranger Things Season 2 will consist of nine episodes and debut sometime in 2017. All eight Season 1 episodes are streaming on Netflix now.
