Rachel Maddow disappointed all of us the other night when she tweeted out that she had Trump’s tax returns. Everyone was super excited to see all the information but it turns out her tweet was nothing more than click bait. What Maddow actually obtained were literally a couple of pages from a 2005 Trump tax return. If the pages had revealed anything significant I think we would have all let it slide. Should there have been something about a Russian company in there we would have let it slide. But there was absolutely nothing. The forms showed the dollar amount he paid in taxes that year, that’s pretty much it.
As Maddow deserved, she was skewered by just about everyone on social media and in the news. The next time you’re going to tease millions of people that you have Trump’s tax returns, you might want to have the actual returns, not just a couple of meaningless pages. By now I’m pretty sure Maddow gets the point and she has to be at least embarrassed by all this. In case she’s not, Stephen Colbert was there last night to remind us all of her incredible gaffe.
In a rare moment we get to see Colbert without his signature glasses on dressed like Maddow and teasing his late night audience with what might be the best joke in the entire world. Check out the clip below:
