I don’t have too many run ins or close relationships with people who are very well known in society. But there are two females in my life who I’ll always be connected to, in whatever small way I am. The first is Ashley Biden. Yes, that Ashley Biden. The one who is the daughter of Joe Biden who is today an amazing individual and does a ton of good for the world. Those that know Ashley know that her past isn’t quite as clean. I happen to have gone to college at Tulane with her and there was an incident way back when which I will not get into. You can look it up. It was published in the New York Post nearly 10 years ago. But there’s another female in my life who’s career has blossomed and I couldn’t be happier for her. That person is Katie Lowes.
I was never close friends with Katie. I knew her way back when in high school. I was a senior and she was a freshman. We would always smile in the hallways and I would talk to her often enough, but nothing where I’d consider her to be in my close circle. I will say this. She was always considered one of the more attractive girls in the school and I have to admit back then, I was a big fan (and still am Katie!).
So when Senior Prom time came around I had a huge conundrum. The girl I had originally asked said yes but I kind of got cold feet for reasons I won’t get into. I wound up reversing on her and to this day I feel horrible about it. Jenny I’m so sorry. Dumbest move I ever made. To this day my friends tease me that I had 8 prom dates because I think I asked at least 10 people after backing out on the original. My memory is a bit foggy but I could have sworn that I asked Katie to the prom to which she said no, I think, maybe? Katie, do you remember this at all? I would up going with a freshman who hooked up with one of my friends. She also got locked into a bathroom that weekend if that’s helpful.
Anyway, Katie was one of the few people I always followed after school. I knew she had always aspired to be an actress and to be honest I was always rooting for her. First I saw her in The Sopranos and I remember thinking, “good for her!” Then she was in some movie called Quarter Life Crisis that was “meh.’ And I think I sort of stopped following her until I saw her on screen with Timothy Hutton in that TNT show Leverage and I was thinking to myself, “is she gonna make it?” It only took her two more years of scattered TV roles before landing the role of Quinn Perkins on Scandal and the rest as they say is history.
So yeah, Katie, I always thought you were super nice, beautiful and yes, I thought you’d make it. Glad you did.
