Jessica Napoli of Fox News is just one person that’s commenting on the fact that Last Man Standing, one of many favorite TV shows, is reaching its milestone 150th episode. This is a huge marker for any TV show since not only does it mean that it’s been around long to be called a favorite among fans, it’s also become something of a household name that a lot of people would know something about if another person brought it up. Throughout the past 7 seasons the show has been a lot of fun since it’s also taken the liberties of bringing in guest stars that have worked with Tim Allen in the past on Home Improvement. This little touch of nostalgia has only added to the show’s already popular parade of one-liners and clever quips that has in fact kind of become the next Home Improvement in a way while remaining its own idea.
Meaghan Darwish from TV Insider chimes in by talking about how the show has already been approved for an 8th season for the 2019-2020 period, which is bound to make a great number of fans happy. In fact it’s vindication that their love of the show has been well-founded. Throughout the history of the show it’s remained largely the same save for a couple of cast changes, namely Kristin, who used to be played by Alexandra Krosney until she was replaced by Amanda Fuller, and of course Mandy, who’s now being played by Molly McCook but was originally played by Molly Eprhaim. Boyd was changed out eventually though it seems like few people would notice since his natural progression throughout the show might be used to explain the difference in his looks, whereas Mandy’s change in appearance had to be handled rather carefully.
You might wonder why so many people are in love with this show, but Nella Van from the CheatSheet kind of hits the nail on the head when she claims that it has a lot to do with Tim Allen. It’s hard to argue with this since almost anything he’s been in has shown a level of humility and responsibility to the show or movie that is great to see and fun to watch since he makes it entertaining and engaging all at once but almost never takes things too far, depending on your point of view. But I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the rest of the cast since it’s not the Tim Allen show, and the rest of the cast puts in just as much and makes it just as great. As a linchpin to the show however Mike Baxter is the kind of guy that a lot of different points revolve around since he is the central figure and the one that kind of drives the story. But as each one of his costars are skilled and talented in their own right they add even more to the story as they continually flesh it out and add their own voices and skills to the mix.
Honestly it’s a lot of fun to watch him spar verbally with his eldest daughter Kristin and her husband Ryan since the two of them usually come off looking like caring, devoted parents with very unreal ideas of how the world they live in works. Granted, they get their points in and make their way of life work for them, but it is kind of funny to see how much back and forth there is between Kristin and her father, who are more evenly matched than Mike and Ryan will ever be. Then there’s Kyle, poor sweet dim-witted Kyle who’s actually pretty bright, but not in a way that you can tell, while Mandy is the slightly egotistical and business-minded sister that means well but usually lets her mouth run away from her mind. Then there’s Eve, the ultimate tomboy at times who is most definitely a daddy’s girl no matter how tough she seems to be.
Vanessa, Mike’s wife, is a pleasant woman that has to put up with a lot between her husband and daughters, and yet thankfully always has a bottle or two of wine ready and waiting for those rough days. Ed, Mike’s boss, is the kind of guy that’s fun to hang around, talk to, and get away from the moment he’s had enough of being a decent person. All in all Mike has a very blessed life on the show but he also has a lot to deal with on a constant basis since he has a business to help run and three daughters that come with their own issues as well as his own life he has to try and live in the spaces between helping out one person or the other. In other words he’s a regular working man with a family to take care of and is easy to relate to.
