There were so many hilarious original characters on the show Seinfeld that ran from 1989 to 1998. During the nine seasons, one recurring character kept coming back for more of Elaine’s wonderful brand of crazy–David Puddy. Usually just referred to as “Puddy” the character was expertly played by the tall dark and handsome actor Patrick Warburton. Puddy’s odd quirks and deadpan delivery made every time he was on screen a treat. From his first appearances as Jerry’s mechanic to the finale when Elaine yells “Puddy, Don”t wait for me” and he replies “I won’t” we have loved what Patrick Warburton added to this wonderful ensemble cast. Here are just five of Puddy’s best moments on Seinfeld.
The Move

As Elaine had already had a thing with Jerry, Puddy’s “move” seemed familiar. Jerry apparently shared some secrets with David, but Puddy claims that he ends with “a pinch” not “a swirl”. What started out as garage banter between Jerry and David became the basis for an argument and threatened Jerry’s relationship with the expert mechanic. When Puddy stops doing this move, Elaine is devastated.
Face Painter

Elaine’s reaction to Puddy’s face painting to support The Devils is funny but Kramer’s reaction when he sees it is priceless. Puddy goes on to terrify a Spanish priest sitting in a car by screaming about “The Devils” outside his window. Though usually low key, Puddy will turn into quite the super fan to “support the team”.
Elaine’s Final Destination
&feature=youtu.be
When Elaine finds out that Puddy is a Christian she asks him if he minds that she is not. He doesn’t miss a beat and replies that it is she who’s going to hell so no big deal. He even asks her to steal a newspaper because “you know where you’re goin’.” The final showdown about the afterlife with another priest on hand is epic.
Vegetable Lasagna
The poor guy is trying to just sit there and have a nap and some apple juice but Elaine and Puddy are having yet another of their famous breakups on the plane. Puddy commiserates with the flight attendant and Elaine turns to the guy who is dubbed as “Vegetable Lasagna” for comfort. Due to a cab shortage, Elaine must leave the airport sandwiched between the guy and Puddy.
The Car Dealership
Puddy goes from mechanic to car salesman and he does look fine in that suit. The only problem is that Jerry’s discount is contingent on Puddy and Elaine staying together long enough for Jerry to swing the deal. Puddy’s high fives and Jerry’s remarks about grease monkeys add to the ever present conflict between Puddy and Elaine. Another great breakup was when Elaine dumped him for “The Wiz” and Puddy won’t take her back because he says she might next go off with the Maytag repair man.
Honorable Mention: Shower Salad
Say what you want about Puddy-he’s a master mechanic. When Kramer is trying to make out the instructions for his shower garbage disposal, Puddy says the directions have a “misprint’ and knows the brand well. We also learn in this episode that Puddy is a recovering germaphobe so the “Shower Salad” meal was hilarious.
