Scream Queens killed off another Kappa and gave us an average episode this week. While playing spin the bottle, someone, or several someone’s, lock the Kappas inside the house. Chanel #3 and Sam have a few moments where 3# is obviously reconsidering her sexuality.
Meanwhile, Chad and the boys successfully break into the Kappa upstairs window…sadly without their armless brother who could not make it up the ladder. Another one bites the dust to the Red Devil. Zayday makes a vow to prove to the Devil that the Kappas are not afraid of him…or her.
With the boys in tow, they transition from spin the bottle to Truth or Dare to prove who in the house is the killer. Good idea, since authorities don’t help very much on this campus. Sam and Chanel #3 reveal #3’s two biggest secrets at once: 1. Charles Manson is her father and 2. She has feelings for Sam. #3 ropes Sam into a dare where she has to take a nap in the Dead Baby Tub downstairs. Yes, send the girl you have feelings for into certain death. Guess what meets Sam at the tub? The Red Devil. Of course, I’m upset that Sam died in this episode, but at least she had a classic moment where she asked the killer to reveal themselves and she said ‘I knew it. I knew it was you.’
Scream Queens is giving me whiplash with the will-they-won’t-they between Hester and Chad and even Chanel and Chad. I need them to throw something more versatile into this mix for me to care about it. Hester makes a threat to Chad, and Chanel uses her time in Seven Minutes in Heaven to ask Chad to commit to her and her alone. To Hester’s dismay, it works (for the episode).
During Chanel #5’s Seven Minutes in Heaven Hester finds Sam’s body in the tub. A series of accusations fly around the basement, in addition to a few possible solutions to discovering the identity of the killer. No matter, because in the meantime the Red Devil kills the remaining twin with #5. Cue another round of accusations. Chad discovers a trap door that the Devil may have used to escape, so of course someone has to go investigate.
Since both Zayday and Chanel are co-presidents of Kappa they agree to explore the underground hidden tunnel together (because yep, they have one of those). Chanel gives Zayday a casual tour of all of the previous Kappa presidents and their ‘legacies.’ The Devil shows up with two axes, and corners Zayday despite her quick moves to escape him. Surprisingly (and honestly the best part of this episode), Chanel attacks the Devil and she and Zayday escape safely.
The following morning, the secondary Chanel’s make a pack to outlive Chanel and the Kappas regroup and decide to face the Red Devil head-on. “Seven Minutes in Hell” ends with a forgettable ‘random’ dance party.
I had a hard time getting into this episode, and it was largely due to the fact that the gimmicks used in “Seven Minutes of Hell” were done in previous episodes, and just very average for the energy the show has had recently. Every show needs filler episodes, so Scream Queens was bound to have one eventually. Hopefully, next week will be better.
