Scream Queens: FOX Cancels Series After 2 Seasons

Fans of the series Scream Queens may be screaming themselves. FOX has just announced that they will not be renewing the Ryan Murphy series for a third season. The concept of Scream Queens was something that network television had never experienced: A comedy horror. Plus, with Ryan Murphy heading up the project, what could go wrong?! Sadly even those two things plus having Jamie Lee Curtis headline the series could not help this struggling show ever find an audience.

This season Scream Queens averaged an audience of only 2.3 million viewers and a measly 1.0 rating in the coveted 18-49 age demographic. Scream Queens was produced by Murphy, Brad Fulchuk, and Ian Brennan. Other stars of the series included Emma Roberts, Lea Michelle, Billie Lourd, Abigail Breslin, John Stamos, Taylor Lautner, and Niecy Nash.

FOX co-chair Gary Newman declared, “Ryan told the story of characters he created over two seasons. It feels as if it was a complete story, we have no plans to go back and tell more stories. We won’t be seeing Scream Queens this season.” Scream Queens will join several other series that have been cancelled by FOX. Last week, the network axed Rosewood, Sleepy Hollow, Son of Zorn, and Making History. The network did give a somewhat surprise renewal for horror drama The Exorcist. FOX also decided to renew New Girl for a shortened seventh and final season.
