Scott Van Pelt’s Emotional Tribute to Laid-Off ESPN Colleagues Was Excellent

Scott Van Pelt AKA the bald Matthew Perry had a very tough job on Sportscenter last night.  As many of you already know ESPN laid off around 100 on-air personalities in order to save money due to the rising prevalence of cord cutting.   Because of the degree to which cable subscriptions are being eliminated the “Worldwide Leader in Sports” is only just starting what is sure to be a very large overhaul of how they do business and report sports to the world.

One on-air personality who did not get the boot was Van Pelt.  SVP had the tough task of addressing the lay offs on ESPN’s flagship show not only because it’s sad to see people go but many of these people were personal friends of his.  As usual, Van Pelt did an excellent job and spoke with dignity, class, and the kind of intelligence he’s always displayed.

Van Pelt was kept on for obvious reasons.  He’s one of the most popular and well liked guys at the network as well as being one of the few people at ESPN who is completely tuned-in to the younger generation.  Check out his homage to his former mates below:
