Say Yes to the Dress is a television show that has been on the air for quite some time. The premise behind the show is that people go out looking for the perfect wedding dress, but are either unable to find it or they simply can’t agree on one. Ultimately, they end up at this exclusive dress shop where so-called experts tell them what they need to purchase, and they usually choose between one of several options that are presented to them. A lot of people watch this show, and there is certainly nothing wrong with that. However, there are a lot of things that this show automatically assumes, and it doesn’t always get things right. Below are some of the things the show gets wrong about weddings.
1. Weddings aren’t always such an ordeal for everyone
If you watch this show long enough, you will end up thinking that weddings are always a huge ordeal for every single person involved. There is a lot of drama associated with this show. Fortunately, every person that decides to get married doesn’t go through all of this. In fact, a lot of people actually get married with relatively little fanfare and distinctly less drama than is portrayed here.
2. You don’t have to go to an exclusive dress shop
Granted, some people might insist on going to a shop like this, but that certainly isn’t the case for everyone. Many people who choose to get married find their wedding dress at a local shop. It really comes down to what each person wants their wedding to look and feel like. This show would have you believe that everyone has to have every little detail a certain way. That may be true for some, but certainly not for all. Some people just aren’t as picky as others.
3. Picking a dress isn’t always a group effort
If you watch the show, it looks like every member of the family on both the bride’s and the groom’s side wants to have a say in the wedding dress that gets picked. This is rather ridiculous, and it only adds to the drama that is consistent with the show in the first place. When it really comes right down to it, picking the wedding dress is the job of the bride. After all, she is the one who is going to be wearing it. Other people might pt the two cents worth in, but the decision comes down to the desires of a single individual.
Well, there you have it. If you like to watch this show, go right ahead and enjoy it. However, you really should take the things you see on it with a grain of salt, so to speak. Remember, this show is on television for entertainment purposes. It is by no means an accurate representation of what most people go through when they are preparing for a wedding. Like virtually everything else on television, you shouldn’t be lulled into believing that most people who decide to get married will have these types of experiences. It just isn’t accurate, nor even probable.
