The Sandlot Writer and Director has Written a New Baseball Movie

Anyone who’s ever played baseball as a kid or even been a kid, period would like the movie The Sandlot.  It will always go down as a baseball classic but in my mind it’ll always go down as one of the most nostalgic films to ever remind me of my youth.   While there were other kids baseball films in the 90s like Rookie of he Year and Little Big League, I don’t think anything encapsulated the beauty of baseball as seen through the eyes of kids as The Sandlot.   Luckily for us the same writer and director that brought us this classic is back writing and he’s bringing us another baseball movie.

David Mickey Evans, has revealed that he’s written a new baseball movie called Junior America, and it’s based on a true story. Evans announced the news on Twitter, calling his new project “The next The Sandlot for a new generation.”

Evans, who also wrote and directed The Sandlot 2 in 2005, described the story of his new screenplay in a blog post on his personal website:

Based on a true story about the first, last and only time a National American Little League team was coached by kids the same age as the players — 14 year-olds. Set against the background of American Little League baseball, it’s a story about the power of friendship and the stresses, worries, difficulties and hard decisions that taking your first steps into the grown-up world put on that friendship. Oh, and it’s funny as hell too.
While this screams Sandlot all over again, why not?  It was a great movie to begin with so I have no issue with this at all.
