Jackie Chan might already be 63 years old but that won’t stop him from saving the world along with the 46-year old Chris Tucker. Chan has recently confirmed that a fourth Rush Hour might soon be finally happening. The only thing that they need to do is to have Tucker agree to come back.
It’s been ten years since Rush Hour 3. No fourth film has been produced ever since although a TV show adaptation was produced by CBS but it was cancelled after only one season. Fans have been requesting for a fourth film and the signs have been negative on the possibility of a fourth movie since there haven’t been any announcement. Recently, Chan has announced on a radio interview that they just agreed to do a fourth movie. He said that, “For the last seven years, we’ve been turning down the script, turning down the script. Yesterday, we just agreed.” The only catch here is that they need Tucker to sign on and a fourth movie will officially be happening. Someone should contact Tucker’s agent right now.
If Tucker agrees to reprise his role as James Carter, they might start shooting for the fourth movie next year which means that we might finally see it by 2019. But, if he declines, the fourth movie will not be happening. So, the fate all leads up to Tucker. Someone should really contact his agent right now. Tucker rarely does movies nowadays. Ever since Rush Hour 3 ten years ago, he only did two movies in which he has supporting roles in both: Silver Linings Playbook and Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk.
Chan has insisted that money has nothing to do about the reason why a fourth film is delayed. He said, “It’s not about the money! It’s about [having the] time to make. Otherwise, Rush Hour 4 we’re all old men. I tell Chris Tucker, ‘Before we get old, please do Rush Hour 4‘”. Luckily, in a 2012 interview with Vulture, Tucker has expressed his interest on a fourth movie. So, it might not be difficult to negotiate with Tucker at all to convince him to do the fourth movie.
In the same interview, Chan has also discussed about the possibility of a second The Karate Kid movie (follow-up to the blockbuster 2010 remake). There was supposed to be a sequel but it seems to be unlikely now. He, Jaden Smith, and Taraji P. Henson were supposedly set to reprise their roles. He said, “There was supposed to be a Karate Kid 2 but the script isn’t right. Several years later, they want to do it and I say ‘You still want to do Karate Kid? No, [we’re now] Karate Men.’ Jaden [is] taller than me now!”
Fans should except a fourth Rush Hour movie anytime soon. As for fans of The Karate Kid (2010), sadly, a sequel is no longer happening. But, on the bright side, YouTube Red will do a TV show sequel to the original Karate Kid movies with Ralph Macchio and William Zabka reprising their roles.
