If you are a fan of Marvel Comics, then you have to keenly cognizant of the influence of Claire Templeton and the interconnectivity that she represents through the multitudinous stories being told involving Daredevil, Iron Fist, The Punisher and more. You will be happy to hear that Rosario Dawson is reprising her role as Claire Temple on the Netflix series, Daredevil in the third season. She will also take on the same role during the second season of Iron Fist. She is currently putting in double-duty as both series are shooting in NYC.
For those who have been keeping up with the rapidly growing list of Marvel superheroes who are showing up in the Netflix lineup, you are aware that the character of Claire Temple has popped up in each one of these installments, with the exception of The Punisher, but I would not be surprised if she does not make an appearance in that storyline at some point in the future. The interpolation of a common character across these stories provides a unique and complex dynamic that makes them more real and intimate.
Claire has consistently come to the aid several Defenders, including Matt Murdock on more than one occasion. For many fans of Rosario Dawson, this is simply another chance to see one of the most diversely talented actresses of this era. For Marvel fans, the return of Claire Temple provides greater complexity to the overall theme and plot.
It will be interesting to see if this reprisal of the Claire Temple role will lead to a return for Claire to the Jessica Jones series where she had developed a relationship with Luke Cage – one of my personal favorites when it comes to the Defenders.
What many fans find most exciting is the fact that Claire has combat skills now – something she showed off is her appearance on The Defenders where she fought alongside Colleen Wing and Danny Rand as they battled the villain, Hand. Claire’s background as a nurse had constantly come in handy when these individuals find themselves in situations where they get banged up and out of options. She gets them fixed up and out of sight until they mend. She also provides wisdom and council when they lose sight of the bigger pictures and become emotionally involved. I guess she is kind of like a wife.
For those who understand the dynamic at play, the return of Claire immediately implies that one or more of the Defenders are in harm’s way and will need her assistance at varying levels.
As both Iron Fist and Daredevil are currently in production for their upcoming seasons, the actual release date for either is unknown; however, Netflix anticipates both season series being ready for release in the current calendar year and fans will happily welcome Claire back with open arms. This writing will be watching with his 15-year-old daughter (an avid Daredevil fan), but for two entirely different reasons. I am a huge fan of Rosario Dawson and any excuse to observe her in action is a good one.
