No, really. The title for this article is true. There might actually be a Romy and Michele’s High School reunion sequel. That means there’s potentially a studio executive out there who might sign off on this project. To say I’m surprised would be the understatement of the year. If anyone asks me “what’s hands down the worst movie you’ve ever seen?” 10 times out of 10 I answer with Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.
But here we are “celebrating” the movie’s 20th anniversary and there’s even a musical out that’s based on the movie. So what about a sequel?
“I would be very exited for [a sequel],” Sorvino, who played Romy, tells E! News exclusively. “I’ve wanted one for years! There’s been a lot of fan clamor for it–maybe it will finally happen now with all the different venues you can make movies for.” So would Kudrow, who played Michele, be up for another bout of the blonde leading the blonde? “Well, sure,” the Friends alum tells E! News. “Yeah, why not? I mean…if it makes sense for those two people to be around my age and see what’s going on.”
As for the writer of the film itself, she’s a little skeptical. “I really wasn’t even thinking of doing a sequel,” she said. “But I thought, at least I should put some thought into it because of all this love coming the way of the movie…I would be an interesting challenge to try and solve.”
Love coming the way of the movie? Here’s a very simple way to identify people in the world. There are those people who like the movie Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion and there are those that despise it. I’m 100% sure that anyone that likes the movie will never be friend or even acquaintance of mine. But I will say that Mira Sorvino looked quite good in that film. That is all.
P.S. I would also not be opposed to seeing a Romy and Michele Halloween costume.
