The Road Tristin Mays Took to Get to Her MagGyver Role

At age 28 it seems like Tristin Mays has it made at this point in her career since she’s best known at this point for her role as Riley Davis on the show MacGyer. That seems like it would be enough to be on cloud nine right? Well as much as it seems like she might have worked hard to get there, and she did, her time spent in show business at this time is not as extensive as you might think. In fact even though her career started in 1990 she still has a rather modest filmography and hasn’t been so super busy in her life that she’s racked up an enormous amount of credits to her name. But then again there is a reason for that.

She was a child model to start with.

Tristin grew up in New York City and was with the Ford Modeling Agency for a good while as she cultivated a career as a top child model. one of the best in the country actually. She landed such lucrative commercials as Kraft Cheese, Play Skool, Kool-Aid, ROSS, Hershey’s, and even McDonald’s. She was also in several Broadway productions for Disney such as the Lion King, playing the part of “young Nala”. If anyone’s ever seen the Lion King played out on stage they have every right to be impressed since even the child actors are amazing to watch considering that they’re not only professional but very talented as well. This was a big feather in her already talented cap and she was just getting started.

Eventually she made her way to TV.

Her TV credits include a starring role on Gullah Gullah Island as Shaina, one of the main characters. She was also seen in Everybody Hates Chris and in Neds Declassified. After this she also went on to star or guest star in several Disney XD shows that continued to build her fame. As a Disney girl, which is a designation given to anyone that’s ever starred in one of the shows, mostly by the fans, she gained a pretty decent following and was starting to get ahead in her career. People loved watching her and kids that grew up to her knew just who she was. If an actor becomes known in Disney then their course is pretty well set so long as they take the advantages it gives them.

She’s been in singing group and she has her own business.

She’s no longer with the group but during her time it was called Jane3 and they were signed to Jive/Zomba records. They had one single that was produced by T-Pain and Marques Houston. They didn’t go all that far but the effort they put in was good enough that they were able to hit the scene and last for a short while. They managed to get big on YouTube for a little bit but the success of the band didn’t last all that long and it was necessary for her to part ways with the group and go into her business for herself. Her mother was the one that gave her this idea and she ran with it, naming the business Trizzio thanks to a nickname that her father had given her when she was younger. Her business specializes in handbags, jewelry, clothes and accessories and she has her products on display at a small boutique in Riverside, CA. So at this point she’s been a star, a businesswoman, and a singer so you might think that she had it all, but really and truly that’s not enough for a person to keep going with unless they keep pushing forward, as many actors have learned.

Her last movie role was in 2015.

She played the part of a cute bridesmaid, as it says in the credits, in The Wedding Ringer starring Josh Gad and Kevin Hart. Since then it seems as though she’s been focusing more on her TV roles and has kind of left the movies alone for now. She’s shown that she can show up and perform a role at least and isn’t scared about getting in front of the camera. But getting a bigger role in MacGyver is something that no doubt requires a lot more attention and is something that needs to be taken seriously, so it’s not much wonder why she’s been laying off of anything else at this time. Of course that hasn’t stopped her from doing a couple of episodes on the show Switched at Birth just to pass the time.

So far in her career Tristin Mays has done quite a bit and she’s come through with her reputation and her career intact and ready to keep moving forward. How far she continues to go is up to her since right now she’s at a perfect spot to keep that train rolling for a long time to come.
