Netflix is going to be rebooting the famed 80’s cartoon She-Ra in 2018, and a lot of geeks that grew up in the 80’s couldn’t be happier. If you grew up during that decade then there were two cartoons that likely held your attention the most, and She-Ra was one of them. He-Man was the other, and for good reason since She-Ra and He-Man’s alter egos, Adam and Adora, are twins. Unfortunately Adora was stolen away and trained to become a warrior for the Horde on the planet of Etheria, until she was confronted by He-Man and granted the Sword of Protection, which restored her by showing what had been done to bring her to where she was.
Much the opposite of He-Man, She-Ra was almost entirely female-driven with a few key males here and there to make certain that they weren’t excluded altogether. He-Man did the same thing as there were only a couple of female characters within the series that made regular appearances. Much as He-Man was about heavily muscled men going to war with one another, She-Ra was also about women that were in top physical condition and were all drop-dead gorgeous fighting one another for dominance of the planet Etheria.
Bringing She-Ra back as a reboot seems like an interesting idea but it wold be best to either bring back He-Man as well or at least have him featured in the show from time to time since he does play a rather important part in her life. There’s no need to make a show that was female-driven into something that appeals only to men or even change it up so much that it becomes something different than what it was, but in deference to the story lines it could help to at least include elements of He-Man in the episodes now and again in order to give She-Ra’s story a bit more depth.
It’s been reported that the reboot has been in the works for about 2 years now so we can expect it to come out fairly soon in 2018. There’s been no word of a release date yet but considering how long it’s been worked on so far the date can’t be all that far off unless some technical issues arise. Barring that She-Ra should be coming to Netflix in her new form fairly soon.
I should say that she’ll be returning to Netflix since having looked on the network I have seen the old cartoons pop up now and again. As a big time He-Man fan I did get drawn to She-Ra once or twice in the past to see what it was like and the show was essentially the same in many regards. The difference was that she was a lot more up front with who she was while Adam kind of tried to hide his identity for whatever reason. He was also more of a lazy prince than she was a princess. Adora always did her best to see to the needs of others and do what she could in a given community. Adam had his good points but he wasn’t always the kind of guy that you would count on without fail.
She-Ra should be coming to Netflix fairly soon.
