Season 3 Premiere: Monday, September 13th at 8:00/7c p.m. on The CW
Last season, 90210 ended in such a stupor that we are still scratching our heads trying to make sense of it all. Annie’s hit and run stroyline took a turn for the worst as the character of Jasper was unleashed on the world to make her life a living hell. Dixon went through a period of feeling himself a little too much for our tastes, while his then girlfriend Silver suffered losing him as well as the loss of Jackie Taylor, her mother who Silver had recently reconnected with after learning of Jackie’s cancer. Adrianna fell off the wagon again after losing Navid, and Jen Clark gave her sister Naomi and the rest of the gang a run for their money as she put the much needed mean in the show. From cougar girlfriends and psychotic boyfriends to lesbian trysts and parental issues, the junior year for the nouveau 90210 gang was a rollercoaster that didn’t know when to stop. So let’s recap the good, the bad, and the downright atrocious.
What You Should Know
Annie, Liam, and Psycho Jasper – After Annie endured an entire season of guilt for hitting a man during a drunken ride in the country (the guy later died), she met up with the man’s nephew, Jasper, who took a liking to Annie. Then he went psycho trying to control Annie through hurting her friends, and stalking her to no end. Annie (finally!) got a backbone and kicked the crazed lunatic to the curb. Then he tried to go and kill himself by jumping off the Hollywood sign, which didn’t work. While Annie finally integrated herself back in with her friends, Jasper kept some distance, but finally struck when he noticed Liam and Annie getting close by burning up Liam’s boat after it’s maiden voyage. The last we saw of Jasper was Liam beating him to a bloody pulp, while Annie was home preparing to tell her parents about the hit and run. WHAT?!?!
Silver and Teddy, Sitting in a Tree – Silver and Teddy had finally managed to get back together, but not before learning that Teddy’s duplicitous father Spence (Ryan O’ Neil) tried to pay Silver off to leave Teddy to his tennis career. Will Teddy exact revenge?
Adrianna, Navid, and the Problem of Javier – Adrianna’s singing career took off just as Navid stopped being an ass and admitted that he still loves her. There is only one problem: Javier, the international superstar. The singer has eyes for Adrianna as well and invited her on a tour with him for the summer, which could set her career off to the top of the charts. Now, Ade has choose between high school (Navid) or the spotlight (Javier).
Dixon’s Rebellion – After inadvertently helping Mark the Senior break into the school to steal the SATs (which weren’t there), Dixon faced his father/principal of the school Harry, who covered for Dixon so that he wouldn’t get expelled. Dixon later let slip to Mark about the cover up and Mark used this info to bribe Harry, who didn’t fall for it… and got fired in the process. Meanwhile, Ivy, Dixon’s surfer girlfriend, invited him to spend the summer with her in Australia, but Debbie forbids Dixon from going, prompting the dude to sneak away anyway. Kids, please don’t try that at home. Please.
The Clark Sisters – After being banished to the ether by Naomi, Jen returned with a vengeance to ruin Naomi’s life financially and mentally. In the process, Naomi slowly lost connection with Liam, who is looking at Annie for sustenance in the attention department. At the end of the year, Naomi finds out that Jen is pregnant with Ryan Matthews’ kid. Wow…
Live To Tell – Naomi’s troubles didn’t end with her sister. After enduring self-humiliation after ‘falsely’ accusing a new teacher, Mr. Cannon, of sexual harassment, Naomi felt horrible for her lies and lonely by the end of the season. While trying to apologize to Mr. Cannon for her actions, he really attacks her, but we are left to wonder if he succeeded or if Naomi fought back. Say what?!?!
The Parent Trap – Debbie and Harry ended the season on the outs over something that we are still trying figure out. Midseason, Debbie became unhappy all of a sudden, thinking that Kelly Taylor was trying to make a move on Harry. But it’s Debbie who actually went and kissed someone else, which starts a chain reaction that ended with lies being hidden and the Wilson family in dire straits familial wise. What can mend this broken home?

****SPOILERS****
An earthquake hits the famous zip code in the season premiere and someone loses their life. How much do you want to bet that someone is a second tier character? Maybe a parent? Or a loved one? Think about… Also, someone might have a life altering injury that will have definite ramifications on their psyche, which will take time to heal. Guest stars for the year include Kim and Khloe Kardashian and Adrien Grenier will perform with his band, The Honey Brothers.” Now let’s rundown each character’s potential story lines:
Annie: Our resident drama queen will find love in the arms of an older man named Charlie (Evan Ross)… who happens to be Liam’s half brother. Uh-oh… This will be one family reunion I don’t want to miss.
Dixon: Dixon’s relationship with Ivy hits a snag when an old friend comes to stay with the Sullivans’. The guy, whose name is Oscar, will be a high school grad and will drive a wedge in Dixon and Ivy’s relationship. But he won’t be the only one, because Dixon’s cougar Sasha will return with some shocking news… What the hell that could possibly be? We have no clue, but the fear of what that news could be is slowly creeping our veins as we speak.
Naomi: Turns out that she DID get raped by Mr. Cannon, but since she’s cried “wolf” already, she feels that no one will believe her and keeps it to herself. But reports are saying that Mr. Cannon will repeated attacks on Naomi and might move on to someone else she cares about. He just so happens to be Silver’s senior advisor. Cue the “Oh HELL NO!” sound bite. Also, Naomi will fight her sister Jen in court over her finances. Can’t wait to see how that plays out, just as long as it is not dragged out.
Navid and Adrianna: With Ade touring the country, she will no longer be a student at West Bev, which will put a strain on the their relationship. Hopefully, this doesn’t drag on either, because we don’t want a repeat of Season Two’s on again/off again with these two.
Teddy: Seems like Teddy might be switching teams. No, not sports teams, but sexuality! Teddy is the main 90210 guy who will have a sexual awakening when he finds out that he’s actually not a ladies man after all. News of this dominated 90210 news this summer, so it’s one of the most anticipated storylines this season. Why this is? We don’t know, but one thing is for sure, Degrassi probably has done it better. Not a dig on 90210, people, just saying. Broadway actor Kyle Riakabo will be the guy Teddy is drawn to and will eventually date. Don’t botch this storyline up like last year, writers.
Ryan Matthews and Debbie Wilson: Ryan will try to grow up a little and prepare for fatherhood, while Debbie will play the field in her newfound singledom. That’s right folks. Rob Estes’ last appearance was in last season’s finale and we won’t see him again. How will his disappearance be explained? I have one guess. (read: earthquake)
