God bless Jesse Custer.

Preacher‘s first season ended on AMC this past Sunday (check out my review of the great season finale), and it did so in a pretty big way. AMC is reporting that the first season established Preacher as one of the top 10 cable dramas of 2016, and, even better, as the number 2 new cable drama of the year. The first season averaged 3 million viewers per episode, and it was only behind FX’s American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson for new cable dramas.

“It is the time of the Preacher, and the story has really just begun,” said president of AMC, SundanceTV, and AMC Studios Charlie Collier about the announcement. “Thanks to the vision, passion, smarts, and guts of Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Sam Catlin, and the entire team on this show, we have just concluded a season of television that looks like nothing else I have ever seen on television.”

Preacher was one of my favorite series of the summer, and I can’t wait for the second season to premiere next year. If you missed it, all ten episodes of the first season are currently available on AMC.com for the next two months. After you’ve watched, check out our list of the Top 5 Moments from Preacher First Season here at TVOvermind!
