As reality TV is continuing to thrive, Netflix are consistently putting out their very own takes on the genre. In particular, they are paying attention to the world of real estate with shows like Million Dollar Beach House and Selling Sunset. In 2024, they released a brand new reality show called Owning Manhattan.
The hot new show landed on Netflix on June 29, 2024 and quickly gained popularity. The series consists of 8 episodes that are all available to stream. Owning Manhattan is hosted by renowned business, actor, and TV personality Ryan Serhant. If you haven’t yet watched the show, here’s everything you need to know.
What Is the Premise of Owning Manhattan?
Although Owning Manhattan is comparable to the many other real estate programmes available, it stands out due to a few specific aspects. The programme provides an intimate glimpse inside the workings of Ryan Serhant’s own successful real estate company in New York City. In the series, Serhant serves as the host and face of the show. The series follows his day-to-day life as he strives to get the very best out of his team of sales agents as they tackle the most expensive of listings.
Owning Manhattan makes the fierce competition in the New York City real estate market entertaining to observe as we gain an insight like we haven’t seen before. The show boasts high-stakes transactions that highlight Serhant’s aptitude for sales and his willingness to become the best in the business. Like with any reality TV show, of course, there are some dramatic moments. And again, as with any other reality show, it has already been met with skepticism as many have speculated that it has scripted elements. As of yet, there has been no official announcement that the show is at all scripted. What is more likely is that the tense moments are genuine, as the real estate world truly is a high pressure environment that can lead to friction amongst the chaos.
Who Is Ryan Serhant?
As mentioned, Ryan Serhant is the host of Owning Manhattan. He is also a genuine businessman who has reportedly amassed a net worth of around $40 million from his many business endeavours. Serhant originally found fame as an actor in the TV series As the World Turns. He then went on to share the screen with Ben Stiller and Adam Driver in the indie drama, While We’re Young. However, he is most known for his many stints on reality TV shows and has since taken a step back from acting.
In 2012, Ryan Serhant made his debut on reality television with the Bravo series Million Dollar Listing New York. He was chosen to be one of the show’s three real estate specialists as his knowledge was in high demand after founding his own brokerage firm, The Serhant Team. In 2018, after making a name for himself with Million Dollar Listing New York, Serhant ventured out on his own and launched Sell It Like Serhant. In this show, which was a spinoff of Million Dollar Listing New York, Serhant collaborated with Bravo once again. The show saw Serhant coach a group of underperforming salespeople by using his knowledge and abilities. Despite its one season run, Bravo enjoyed strong ratings from the show, making Serhant even more popular and a bankable host.
Outside of television, Serhant has built a large following on social media. To date, his official Instagram page has amassed over 2 million followers. Furthermore, he has a YouTube channel where he posts regular real estate tips and tricks and Vlogs. As a result of his growing success, it is easy to see why Netflix have took a leap of faith for his new series, Owning Manhattan.
Will There Be a Second Season of Owning Manhattan?
So far, there has been no official announcement from Netflix regarding the notion of Ryan Serhant and his sales team returning for a second season of Owning Manhattan. Hope is not quite lost, though, since Netflix are known for biding their time before revealing the second season of a series, no matter how succesful the first season is. However, Ryan Serhant has exuded a strong sense of confidence that himself and his agency will soon return to the small screen. Serhant made hints about a possible second season while discussing the first season with House Beautiful. He said: “We have filmed some things that we weren’t able to continue with by the time shooting ended, didn’t make sense for season one. I think they are primed for season two and are intense, to say the least.” Want to read more about Ryan Serhant? Here’s a breakdown of his net worth.
