Of Course We Want to See Jon Hamm in a Star Wars Movie

Jon Hamm Star Wars SNL

Kevin Burwick from MovieWeb has been busy as of late and his latest article about Jon Hamm wanting to be in a Star Wars movie makes a lot of sense. The actor is primed and ready to find his way into the Star Wars franchise as he’s already stated and will gladly take on whatever part there is. Quite honestly people have already thrown out what part he could possibly play since he’s already voiced the part of Jango Fett in an audiobook. But thinking about it now, perhaps one of the more iconic and impressive characters that we’ve only seen in the animated features at this point would be a perfect role for Hamm. Think about Grand Admiral Thrawn, the blue-skinned Chiss commander that was ingratiated himself to the Emperor and was often at odds with Darth Vader. Thrawn, who was an interesting character in his own right and has been given his own book series in recent years, is a character that is essentially emotionless since he is the type that analyzes everything, from the smallest facial tic to the very artwork and industry that each species employs throughout their given society.

In essence Thrawn is a very smart character and at this point is supposedly still alive in the new canon, meaning that he could possibly emerge once again, thereby leaving Hamm a definite in to create the character as is needed. It could also be that the end of the Skywalker line could be a good time to bring Thrawn back since in the books that have come out recently, Thrawn happened to meet with Anakin Skywalker prior to his transformation into Darth Vader. Thrawn has also been around Vader more than once since he was a part of the Empire, though the two rarely ever cared much for each other. But bringing him back would introduce a character that is not always villain, but is definitely not the hero either. Thrawn is more or less a survivor in every sense of the word, a man that knows how to play people and analyze them to the extent that he will know just about everything about them in a very short time.

So far Chris Arrant from NewsaRama and others have been amused as Hamm continues to joke about not having been cast in a Star Wars movie, but perhaps it won’t be too much longer until we’ll see him step onto the big screen as one of the many characters that we either recognize or will come to know for one reason or another. There are of course certain characters that he WON’T be, but there are a lot left in the canons that he could take over, as the current canon still makes good use of those individuals that come from the original, or Legends canon. Who he might choose to be, or who he’d be asked to be is as of yet unknown, but it could be something that a lot of fans would be willing to see happen. After all, Hamm is a great actor that doesn’t seem to get enough credit or roles that could possibly allow him to finally break out of the mediocrity that he’s been placed in. It’s not hard to say or realize that Hamm is by far and large one of the more talented actors that needs to be given the chance to flex his skill and be allowed to show that he’s for real.

Star Wars is after all a proving ground for some people and where some careers go to die if they can’t take control of the characters they’ve been given. Some have excelled, such as Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman, while others haven’t done much after their time in the movies. Hamm really feels like the kind of guy that would excel in this kind of role, no matter what it would be. If he wasn’t cast as Admiral Thrawn it almost seems as though he might need to be cast as a pilot, a bounty hunter, a smuggler, something that’s less than reputable, since his attitude and his ability to act would almost seem to demand this. His part in Baby Driver was brilliant since it gave him the chance to break out of the role of Don Draper and show that he could be edgy and gritty. Given a role in Star Wars it seems as though he could easily step into this franchise and make himself someone that we would want to pay attention to and would gladly see as a character that could help drive a story or perhaps drive his own. That being said, one can only hope that when the next Star Wars trilogy is unveiled in the future that we’ll see Hamm’s name on the list of potential cast members.
