OK so does anyone remember that only yesterday I pointed out how reality TV is getting closer to movies like The Running Man and The Hunger Games? If you didn’t read it then I suggest going there now. The point I was making is that reality TV is getting more brutal with each year. Stakes are rising and the things we’re seeing people go through on live television are becoming more serious issues with more serious repercussions. This however, is extremely dangerous. We as a society are now making fun of tragedy, loss, pain, crying, destruction, you name it. My fear is that eventually we’re going to be creating games out of all this (if we’re not already, look at shows like Survivor).
Next up on our list? Putting murderers on Reality TV. According to TMZ
O.J. Simpson could be released from prison as early as October, and the buzz in the reality TV industry is that some producers are getting ready to scramble to sign him. We’ve contacted a number of reality TV production companies, TV agents and platforms where such a show could run, and the reactions range from recoiling in disgust to pouncing on the opportunity. None of the people to whom we spoke wanted to be quoted by name, but they all say the most likely formats are documentary or interview show.
I happen to be on the “disgust” side. How repulsive would it be to plaster this guy’s life on television? Our society is truly sinking and if OJ somehow lands his own show if and when he’s released from prison there will be no limits as to what we put on our screens. Awful.
