I’m guessing that many of you have seen The Running Man. If you haven’t seen The Running Man then you’ve surely seen The Hunger Games. Both movies are examples of societies that feature barbaric “games” that toy with the real lives its citizens. In The Running Man Arnold Schwarzenegger is being hunted by villains from a game show that are trying to track him down and kill him. Audience members bet on whether or not he’ll survive. In Hunger Games people from each District are pitted against one another and only one shall survive. Why do I bring these movies up? It’s my firm belief that in a not so distant future our society may very well resort to these kinds of insane “games.”
The new FOX reality series “You the Jury” brings us one step closer to this reality. Fox is launching You The Jury, a live unscripted series, in which viewers serve as trial jurors in civil cases. Hosted by Fox News’ Jeanine Pirro, former prosecutor, judge and a syndication court show star, You the Jury will feature six well-known attorneys arguing their cases, with viewers voting in real time to determine the verdict. Now, it’s important to note that the verdict or should I say “America’s Verdict” isn’t legally binding.
But how long will it take before A. it’s legally binding, and B. they upgrade the stakes of these trials to include larger crimes and worse punishments? Trust me guys. Our judicial system is eventually going to become one giant American Idol. Check out the trailer below:
